I believe the egg came first, since the chicken has a common ancestor.

The egg, easy enough. Chicken evolved from earlier organisms that were already laying eggs.

I think the concept of a chicken came before the egg. The egg system may have already been used but not a chicken egg. To get a chicken egg the creator must have conceived of a chicken.
