"Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. "
Proverbs 18:21 WOY

I have found it is a good idea to speak out against someone who speaks an untrue word about you or about the future. It is not a good idea to let those destructive thoughts into our lives. I have found not to let the untrue things people say sink in or bother me .

Thoughts, experiences?

"There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health."
Proverbs 12:18 WOY

I have been taught to cancel or cut off in the name of Jesus anything negative said by another that was directed toward myself. The same would apply to a seemingly benign statement like 'take care' as we are to cast our cares on Jesus. There are ways to get caught up in witchcraft by simple statements. Example: if someone says 'Knock on wood' and you echo back, "knock on wood" you have entered the realm of witchcraft in that simple statement.

CGL - Entering the realm of witchcraft is more than just echoing back something to somebody. If I were to say bacon is delicious and you echo back to me "bacon is delicious" are you entering the realm of witchcraft? No you are simply concurring with my statement. As for the in the name of jesus cutting off bit, it is a bit of an odd practice but if that is your thing, go for it. For the original poster - I know exactly what you mean. I am one of those laid back people that takes everything with a grain of salt. Although I am unclear of what you mean by speaking out against the person

I was rebuked by another Christian when I said to him "take care" when saying good-bye at a pig roast hosted by a mutual Christian friend. That rebuke started a deep study of the word that culminated in my wife and I leaving that church. There was much more, but that was beginning of the end and our fellowship with those in the Charismatic Movement. God led us elsewhere on a more fundamental path.

He rebuked you for telling him to "take care???"
Sounds like he needs prayer and medication....and counseling.
There are also Scriptures that speak to being slow to anger...maybe he needs to read it.
Also, for someone to innocently, non-seriously and even humorously say "Knock on wood" with no intentions of evil in the heart (that is where the Lord looks and judges) is no more "participating" in witchcraft than an atheist saying Jesus' name is "participating" in Christianity.

If it was casually said, it wouldn't have made an impression on me. But the way it was said, did make an impression on me. I wonder how many non-Christians have been turned off to the Gospel message by such manner? It seems like a form of legalism to me. Thou shall speak this way and thou shall only read My words from this English translation. Thus says the Lord. :preach:

In my experience, an emotion that seems to go hand in hand with some of our brethren nit-picking every word and phrase seems to be anger. I'm much more open to thinking about advice if it's given in a loving way. :groupray:

Wow. Well put.
I agree that motive is the force behind much of these cliche statements and so on.
On the other hand we might be careful to not condemn. Perhaps praying for Truth to be revealed to all parties involved, including ourselves, and let God be the one to say and convict on what is witchcraft or ridiculousness.

In whatever case... It would be good for us to pay more attention to what we idly say or think.

Many people are angry, when they feel which is an (emotion), that their point of view is not taken like gospel.

Many people relate to books being written by a Christian Author as being the right interpretation of scripture or the translation from Greek or Hebrew by their translation and they are right an everyone else is wrong. Pride goes before a fall, just ask Satan he fell from heaven with a few Angels.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. The Bible

Peace be with you

By living like you are you are in bondage to every one's words. Other people's words have no power over me. Also They can't curse me because Jesus became a curse for me. If you think that you will be effected by someone saying take care then your life must be very very stressful. There is no biblical proof of your theory. If so can you show scriptures to prove it?

Okay, let's make sure I've got this right.
If someone says "Take care" to me, instead of me presuming that they care about what happens to me and are being nice, I should be offended because I don't need to take care because I have cast all my cares on Jesus? And because I trust in Christ I don't have to use care and caution in life?

Sorry, that boat don't float.

That's the same thing as someone saying "Have a good day" and me replying "Don't tell me what kind of day to have!"

Again, if something as simple and benign as "take care" stirs feelings of anger and resentment...there is no justification for it.
Proverbs 16:32 "He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city."
James 1:19-20 "My beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath (anger), for the wrath of man does not accomplish the righteousness of God."
