I am one who believes in God, but have trouble believing in the bible in a literal sense. I believe it is mostly symbolic with some reality mixed in. Recently my 74 year old mother was hospitalized and has been diagnosed with permanent atrial fibrillation. In other words, her heart will beat irregularly for the rest of her life. She is on pradaxa to prevent her from having a stroke. I am falling apart because she IS my world. I am depressed beyond comprehension. Please pray that God comes into my life to help me make what time she has left the best time she could possibly ask for.

Praying that your mother will be healed & that you both will have much more time together to grow in grace. Remember that the Lord summed up the old covenant in the 2 great commands (see Mark 12:28-34) & that the old covenant was a temporary necessity until the Gospel reformation (see Hebrews 9:10 & read all of Hebrews 9). Lord, have mercy in the name of Jesus Christ in the name of the Father, Son, & Holy Spirit.

I am definitely praying for you! And trust me I can relate. My Mom had two brain aneurisms and was in a coma for 11 days. When it happened, I was deployed in the military and could not be with her. And it was one of the hardest times in my life. Thankfully, God saved her. And then He saved me too. He delivered me out of the Army on an almost impossible to get hardship discharge so I could be with her, and help take care of her. God can work miracles. Have faith! Don't lose sight of Him. And continue praying. He can definitely deliver. I am rock solid proof. When I was in Afghanistan, I made a list of miracles that God did for me. From big things to small, he was there. And He saved my life. My actually testimony is on this site and on my website whoisjesus4real.com. Hang in there! And know that God is there, and He can work behind the scenes to do amazing things. Awwww thats horrible. She is on disability? She can get even help and hope hospos.. as well. see if she can get a heart machine that can possibly jump start her heart carefully.. To help her with her heart? Check out Easter seals in ur area and ur local hospital chapel/church pastor ?? Support groups in ur hospital... Do some google searching..

mehertns, I have prayed to the point of tears for you and your mother today. I don't know why your simple plea for help has touched me so much. Maybe it is because of you or maybe it's because of your mother, I don't know, but I know you are in pain.
God doesn't always do things the way we want them, but he hears you. I will pray for you, but please pray to him yourself. Not just a "Hey, how ya doing" prayer, but a soul pouring, mind exposing conversation with the one who made us...the one who will bring us all home to him that seek him.
Pray for your mother, pray for yourself. Remember that He has enough time for your problems, however insignificant they may seem at the present, as well as your joys.
I know this is not really a thread asking for guidance, but if you are interested in learning about the bible and how accurate it is, a short book that helped me out not so long ago was More than a Carpenter, by Josh McDowell. This may not be the time for you to read it, but it only costs about $5 dollars at most book stores, and may be something that can bring you closer to God. If you don't get it now, just store this info for another time. But I think it will help.

Have u gone to ur local family church and asked for their help? reach out to hope hospice? she how they can help?
Same with support groups where ur mom is? never stop reaching out for help. Sister
possibly red cross can help? we r rootn for ya... God help our sisters mom/.. Cure her mom now in ur loving name. Thank you.."Never give up sister"

I just wanted to add one more thing, mehrtens. I, too, often battle doubts, and I believe all Christians do. Did you know that Mother Teresa accomplished her greatest works for God during her time of deepest doubt of His love and even His existence? Faith is not feeling--it is continuing to act despite feelings. The Lord says that "faith as small as a mustard seed" is good enough (Matthew 17:20), because God's "grace is sufficient for you, for His power is made perfect in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9).
The Bible is a very challenging read for the perpetually-questioning like you and me. After all, mankind has spent two millenniums discussing it, and still has millenniums' worth of more to know. (I'd say any book that promotes that kind of discussion is pretty special, by the way!) However, despite all the many possible interpretations and symbolic meanings one may draw from the Bible, one fact rings abundantly true: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16).
Draw nearer to Christ--even when doubts and questions surge inside of you--and He will guide you through them. The doubts won't cease at once, but day by day, you'll grow in Him. I feel that your very coming to Christian Forums shows your "mustard seed," and that God has a wonderful faith journey planned for you.
