The Republican are fully capable of getting the minority vote. Here's a hint: don't insult our intelligence and work ethic.

All I have seen is extreme Republican pandering with little to show for it. And with many minorities coming from different civilizations and cultures, they have different views on what the role of government should be.

I fail to see how Ryan and Rubio working on immigration reform is "pandering."

If I had heard the same talk from them before the Presidential election, then I would just think they are progressive "Republicans" who just believe our immigration laws don't matter. But people like Ryan, Hannity, Rand Paul, and others only started talking about amnesty after seeing the abysmal minority vote the Republicans received.

But I am not just talking about immigration reform either. The fact that Republicans form groups and committees specifically to pander to the minority vote is just a waste of time.

Actually, I'm starting to think you are right on this. As far as the Republicans were concerned, the November loss wasn't a policy problem but a branding problem. And as long as they keep their policies and rhetoric, for the most part, the same the more difficult it is going to be for them to get the minority vote.

Wow, I actually agree with Creech on something.

I'm sure there are individual Republicans within the party who've held these views for a while, but as a whole, the party's move does smack of pandering.

Whether or not it's a waste of time for them remains to be seen - I don't think they're sincere, but I never underestimate the gullibility of the electorate.

Jindal is a joke? America only has one problem. And it's a borrowing problem.
We cannot borrow our way out of debt. We can't print our way out of debt. We can't pay our debt. What other solution exists but to cut spending.

Can any smart people on the left tell me why the deficit continues to increase? I'd love to hear this.

Introspection is a good thing. Republicans will hopefully reach for more of the middle but come across as decisively conservative in the next election. There are plenty of conservative minorities that can and should be reached. The data shows that conservatives outnumber liberals by a 2:1 ratio in the US, so all we need to do as conservatives is get out the vote (we didn't do well with Romney) and win over some of the moderates (we really did bad with Romney). By my math, if we get out the conservative vote, we only need 1 in 3 moderates to win the POTUS. Liberals, on the other hand, have to win over 2/3 of moderates, and the liberal policies of Barack Obama is biasing the Democratic party so far to the left that moderates will not flock in their direction in either 2014 or 2016. Gun control is case in point.

The best part is imagining how that sounds with an Indian accent.

He's an American from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and he speaks English with a Southern accent.

The next time I see a leftist whine about racism, or bigotry, I'm going to link this thread.

America has many problems - not just one. And the one problem you mentioned has two solutions - cut spending or raise revenues. A combination of both is what I would prefer to see.

..........................

The best way the Repubs could address their 'stupid problem' would be to ashcan Bobby Jindal and his ilk. That would be a step towards addressing the issues which might actually help the average person who is a likely repub voter and even convert some who vote dem because the repub alternative visibly works only for the 1%.

Right. That's just what the GOP needs to do: Alienate even more of their Core and be even more of the Exclusionary Party.

When a Gardener goes to weed the Garden and Pulls up all the Flowers but Leaves the Weeds, one must call into question the Intelligence (or Intentions) of said Gardener.

I'm not saying that Jindal isn't an extreme right-winger in his own right. But at least he has demonstrated that he has the ability to recognize that there is a problem (and the willingness to speak out about it.)

One of the Problems with the GOP is the Purists in the Party that want to cast out anyone who's not as "Pure" in their Beliefs as they are. The Only problem with Purists is that one can never be "pure enough" in someone's eyes and the crusade to rid the party will only result in a Party of a Single White Guy in a dark room, satisfied with his own "purity."

People don't want to admit that they are liberal thanks to conservatives giving it the same connotation that they would to "child molester." Fact of the matter is, most of the country is liberal when you go issue by issue.

Introspection isn't even their strength either. Jindal's remark comes what? Three months later? Until then all we heard were a bunch of babies throwing tantrums about other people and how they were lazy and that's why the GOP couldn't get any votes. Again.

Why would someone born and raised in Louisiana have an Indian accent?

You know, I was thinking "I don't remember him having a foreign accent" but i wasn't quite sure enough to call him on it and not quite not-lazy enough to check. Thanks for letting me continue to be lazy.

Bobby Jindal is an American with an American accent of the English language, so could you please elaborate on how that best part of things as you perceive them has anything at all to do with reality?

The best part is imagining how that sounds with an Indian accent.

Emphasis mine. I was thinking Raj from Big Bang theory.

Do you have a link to one of these studies?

While I personally support gay rights, I don't know if saying "majority" is entirely accurate.

Overall - the public opinion of same sex marriage in the US has gone to a majority "in favor" since around 2010.

Public opinion of same-sex marriage in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The thing is that the people who are against it tend to, IMO, have stronger feeling about the issue and are more likely to come out and vote against it. People who are in favor, while growing rapidly in number and conviction, still have a large number of people who don't feel strongly about it or are kinda on the edge (leaning in favor, but could be convinced to vote against). I'd argue that 2012 will be seen as a pivotal year in the movement where public opinion in favor of same sex marriage really solidified.

I'm really in shock how far the movement has come in such a relatively short period of time. If you asked me fifteen years ago if I thought gay marriage would be in place in the US within my lifetime, I would have said MAYBE in 50+ years. Now, that happening in the next couple years is a distinct possibility, and I'm 99.9% certain that it will happen in my lifetime especially because there seems to be such strong support in the younger generations.

Have you seen the show?
Doesn't matter. If a conservative saw a show with a black man of a particular accent and he stereotyped Obama with that accent, well, we know what our liberal friends would say.
