I watch old movies from the 1930s/1940s, as well as a few Betty Boop shorts.

I get many inspirational ideas from animated sitcoms and the like...

Listen to music helps, like Black Metal or classical.

I try to get in the right mindset to be creative, a tad of anger and a sprinkle of stupidity.

My lyrical themes tend to come to me spontaneously. I know what I want to write about, so I begin to look for musical themes that correspond to that. When I'm writing music I usually go for a walk by myself. I look for sights that inspire melodies, and listen for non-musical sounds that suggest rhythms. After I have a good idea of what the song will sound like, I flesh out the lyrics so that they fit the music.

Sometimes I end up with friction between the lyrics and the music. When that happens I'll start writing another song for the lyrics, and writing new lyrics for the music. Other times, parts of either get "orphaned" along the way and I use them as seedlings for other songs, though those songs sometimes end up nothing like they did at their inception. In fact three of the songs that I consider my best originally all started as the same "orphaned" melody from a different song and developed so differently that the melody was left unused at the end.

When I write fiction, it depends on the part I'm writing. For setting, description and action I often draw on images from memories and dreams, but to make the descriptions less dry and to follow "show, don't tell" I listen to music while I write them. I prefer impressionistic or contemplative new-agey stuff for settings and descriptions, but for action I listen to something that might work as the score if the scene were in a movie. So everything from neoclassical to actual movie scores works. I'll even listen to death or thrash metal if it's a particularly intense scene.

For dialogue I usually work on it with someone like my brother or a close friend, as that helps me to incorporate the mannerisms of someone else so that all my characters don't sound the same. Exposition is a different matter. All I can do there is write it and then subject it to the criticism of my peers - the more frank and nit-picky, the better - then make changes according to what I learn from that.

My creativity is driven by my imagination. I'm most productive when I set aside a time so I won't be distracted. Music can help me get in the zone, and I often have the radio on while working on a project, but it isn't necessary.

I also get inspiration from watching inappropriate contentographic films. I love the cheesiness of them, and try to incorporate that feeling into some of my work.

I really try to extract the essence from almost anything I like, it's best to scan all the unexpected places.

I'm not trolling, I actually have gotten a ton of ideas and inspiration from those films lol.

Finding inspiration from odd sources has proven to be a very successful for me creative wise thus far.

It's also fun to try to mix and match things you'd never think would go together.

I'm interested in seeing your inappropriate content inspired artwork now :ahah:. Keep it PG-13 though, I don't want to get cancer
