I like how this was left ignored. Pretty telling.

Pretty sure it was a failure since at some point He had to push the "reset" button (flood), not to mention that just days after being created Adam and Eve did the ONE THING they were not supposed to do.

Has not AV said that God/Jesus is coming back any day now to deal with the mess that the world has become?

Success can be so elusive.

The number of "d'oh!" moments in Genesis alone would seem to beat the average Simpsons episode...

The Challenger disaster was a complete failure. The report on the disaster by Feynmann was a complete success.

The disaster and its investigation are completely different things. One was a failure and the other was a success. You cannot group the things together, two distinct things, and label them as a whole.

It is like holding a red apple and a green apple and asking someone what is the single colour of the two as a single entity. Its like a doctor coming into you after your finger reattachment surgery and saying that the ban-saw accident was a complete success.

Edit: Jet lag makes writing difficult.

This sounds like so much superfluous hyperbole, unless of course you can give an objective example.

I think statements like the one you quoted above are meant for spiritual "reinforcement" and don't have any real or practical value. I asked for an example too. It'll be interesting to see if anything is forthcoming.

Yeah, these proclamations usually amount to no more than 'ra ra rally round the flag' emotional boosts. They're long on claims and short on evidence - par for the course I 'spose.

No, it's not hyperbole. It's real. Just see the drawings by Larry Van Pelt

I find it very interesting how Jesus is always portrayed as this instantly recognizable pretty white guy. Couldn't find a description anywhere in the Bible though.

And from what we know of what Middle Eastern people look like, the notion of him being a "pretty white guy" is pretty laughable, actually.

If a scientific endeavor fails to achieve its stated expectations ... even fails drastically, but from it comes a new and/or better product; is that scientific endeavor considered a "success" or a "failure"? or both? or neither? or what?

Any endeavor, scientific or not, can have unexpected benefits.

Back in college, a few friends and I went upstate for a weekend camping trip. After getting hopelessly lost and never getting anywhere near the campsite, we managed to discover a small town straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting, a bed-and-breakfast that served the best food I'd ever tasted, and an outdoor flea market where I paid $5 for an Indiana Jones-style fedora which I wear to this day.

We never camped, not once -- but we still call the trip a success. Wouldn't you?

...which is kind of surprising given certain fundamentalist claims that the gospels were written by eye witnesses. Apparently it wasn't worth mentioning what the son of God actually looked like. One would have thought Jesus's appearance would have warranted a mention somewhere.

Of course, if the gospels were stories reported by word of mouth many decades later then the lack of such details would suddenly make sense.
