2 Peter 3:11, worldliness and Godliness...

[Seeing] then [that] all these things shall be dissolved, what manner [of persons] ought ye to be in [all] holy conversation and godliness, 2 Peter 3:11

But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation. 1 Peter 1:15

He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil; Isaiah 33:15

I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; [it] shall not cleave to me. Psalms 101:3

I will set no wicked thing [matter] before mine eyes...

The word used for "wicked" there is the Hebrew, "bĕliya`al" "בְּלִיַּעַל", and is many times in scripture given as "Belial", see passages Deuteronomy 13:13; Judges 19:22, 20:13; 1 Samuel 1:16, 2:12, 10:27, 25:17, 30:22; 2 Samuel 16:7, 20:1, 23:6; 1 Kings 21:10,13; 2 Chronicles 13:7... and is so elsewhere used to designate "ungodly", 2 Samuel 22:5; Psalms 18:4; Proverbs 16:27, 19:28, "evil", Psalms 41:8, "naughty", Proverbs 6:12, or "wicked", Deuteronomy 15:9; Job 34:18; Nahum 1:11,15.

As passage that comes to the fore is:

Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. Romans 1:32

We see that there are those that not only "do the same" [wickedness], but even "have pleasure in them that do them", and both are "worthy of death", and the "judgment of God" is just upon them.

Just as in the days of the spectators and the gladiators and theatrics of Rome, there were those who enjoyed doing, and those who enjoyed watching the doing... so too today... sports arenas, television, internet, etc.

Therefore Paul says:

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8

...and most of common television, etc is not any of those things, being filled with all manner of idolatry, sorcery, murder, violence, sexual imorality, vice, covetousness, etc.

I will recommend this video series for any who really want to know what is being shown in such theatrical venues...

...and as you watch, ask yourself, do you allow yourself pleasure in watching/listening/thinking about those things [that others do in those media streams] that are forbidden in the scripture?

I know, but I wanted to share with others as well, and equip them unto edification, even moreso than on just the subject of the television, though that is part of this. So to more answer the question:

Abstain from all appearance of evil. 1 Thessaloinians 5:22

The eye leads unto the Mind/Heart, and the Hand is what we work and do with, our actions, and our Foot is the way in which we walk, either in the world or in His ways, which are above...

But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. Matthew 5:28

And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast [it] from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not [that] thy whole body should be cast into hell. Matthew 5:29

Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 2 Peter 3:12

...instead of filling our minds with useless and vain imaginings of video, music or printed page, let us instead read and think in the Word of God, His scriptires, and praying for guidance therein.

Most people can name their favorite actors, their favorite movies, quote line by line entire movies and scenes, know their favorite sports team players, stats, etc, video games characters, items, language, their gods and superheroes of their games, cards, comix, anime, but when it comes to the Word of God, that which leads unto Eternal Life, they are almost wholly ignorant and are in the broad way which leadeth unto destruction. I used to be such... yet God in His mercy called me out by His love and Grace, to Follow Him...

...and to stand in Him in this present world and yet apart from it.

If that which one is captive ["enter-tain-ment"] to is that which is wicked on the television, etc, ask God to free you from it, and then it may needs be that you cut it off completely, lest we perish with it.

"enter" - to come in
"tain" - to be held captive
"ment" - in action/process

...therefore the word literally means "to be in the process of being held captive...", a slave of the mind. Are we captive to the things of this world? or are our minds ""captive" to the Word of God", as Martin Luther once stated...

"amusement":

"a" - against/opposed
"muse" - to cognitively think
"ment" - in action/process

...therefore the word literally means "to be in the process of not cognitively thinking". Are we in fantasy land when the world comes to its end, as it is rushing ever closer, or are we "looking" for He who is coming, thinking about Him and His will for our lives, are we thinking about present things continaully, or eternal things? The things of satan and of men, or the Things of God?

The devil is seeking to distract us and tempt us into eternal death with all manner of worldliness and things that shine temporarily, even as he then so long ago presented all the kingdoms of the world in their splendor to Christ...

Now is the time to put away all filthiness, to put away sin by the power of Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit, even as it is said, "To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation." [Hebrews 3:15]

"Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;" [Isaiah 1:16]

This is the time of the Anti-Typical Day of Atonement, for the "...hour of His Judgment is come..." [Revelation 14:7]

"For on that day shall [the priest] make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, [that] ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD." [Leviticus 16:30]

It is a time for affliction of soul, Leviticus 16 and 23.

"Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse [your] hands, [ye] sinners; and purify [your] hearts, [ye] double minded." [James 4:8]

"Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:" [Ephesians 4:1]

"Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls." [James 1:21]

"Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God." [2 Corinthians 7:1]

Yes, we can do these things, we can overcome "even as" [Revelation 3:21] He overcame, not in our own own strength, but in His:

"I am the vine, ye [are] the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing." [John 15:5]

"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." [Philippians 4:13]

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost." [Titus 3:5]

"That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word," [Ephesians 5:26]

"[Thou] blind Pharisee, cleanse first that [which is] within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also." [Matthew 23:36]

And not only our actions must be cleansed, but even all of our very thoughts and intents of the heart/mind, may be, even today, now, in subjection to Christ Jesus:

"Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;" [2 Corinthians 10:5]

For nothing defiling shall enter into Heaven:

"And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither [whatsoever] worketh abomination, or [maketh] a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life." [Revelation 21:27]

For God is Holy, and has given unto us His Son, Christ Jesus, that we too may be Holy, "even as" He is Holy:

"But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;" [1 Peter 1:15]

"Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy." [1 Peter 1:16]

"[Seeing] then [that] all these things shall be dissolved, what manner [of persons] ought ye to be in [all] holy conversation and godliness," [2 Peter 3:11]

"For such an high priest became us, [who is] holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;" [Hebrews 7:26]

"And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin." [1 John 3:5]

Notice, we are to continually abide in Him, and in Him there is no no place for sin:

"But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, [and] doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked [man] doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die." [Ezekiel 18:24]

Sin, is the Transgression Of His Holy law, His Ten Commandments:

"Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law." [1 John 3:4]

It is when we truly have Hope and Trust in the True Salvation, the True and "Everlasting Gospel" [Revelation 14:6], wherein He saves us not in our sins, but "from" our sins [Matthew 1:21]:

"And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure." [1 John 3:3]

That Everlasting Good News, is that we can be overcomers now, today, and "all works of the flesh" [Galatians 5] can be conquered in Him.

"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." [John 8:32]

"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." [John 8:36]

Believe His Word. Freedom is at hand. Now is the acceptable time. not later. Now.

Freedom. Not freedom in sin, but freedom from it, freedom from transgression against God, His Law [Ten Commandments] and Governement and freedom from the sentence of eternal death, and even given the gift of eternal life.

Cease from believing the lies of the devil, that we can be saved in transgression of God's Law, cease from believing his insinuations that God's pure, Holy, Just and Good Commandments cannot be obeyed, that God will accept us into Heaven without a total transformation from the "old man" into the "new man", cease from believing that God is too exacting, harsh, and a cruel tyrannical despot; malevolent in what He asks and commands, for no - no, God is Good, God is Love!

You, yes you, whomesoever you be, can be free NOW from Murders, Thefts, Drugs, Alcohol, Addictions, Cigarettes, inappropriate contentography, Filthiness Of Fornication, Covetousness, Idolatry, Foul Language, Impure Thoughts and Motives, Exaltations, Pride, Malice, Wraths, Heresies.

Ask God for help even now, go to Him in prayer, and ask God for the strength to throw away the bottle, to cast aside the joint, to tear up and burn those books of sorcery, and magazines of filthiness, to tear down every idol in the imagination, to break those dvd's and cd's of blasphemy against God, to hold back the tongue from exaltations, corruptions and words of destruction. He can heal the mind and heart, body and whole person.

Freedom is at hand, now. Today is the day of salvation, and to whose household will it come? To yours? It can

You can be free, even this very moment if you will only believe, and then as each moment comes, remain in Him and in His love, take up the cross, and crucify those things of the carnal flesh, the worldly lusts, the base passions. Let them hang there upon the cross, defeated, and dead, die today in self, and every day.

Look at those Ten Commandments [Exodus 20], and see Exodus 20:6 and John 14:15, and know that they are the perfect standard, the very codified character of the ever living God, the God of Love:

"But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth [therein], he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed." [James 1:25]

For the "old man" can never enter heaven. He must die the 2nd death, and you must be born again, born from above, willing to love and serve Him who first loved us. It can be done. He said so:

"Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them." [Hebrews 7:25]

It matters not your past, matters not your enormity of sins, matters not whether you have forsaken Him in the past countless times, and failed in promises which were as ropes of sand, for if you come unto Him now, today, this very moment, DO NOT WAIT to feel something, DO NOT WAIT for the flesh, but TAKE HOLD OF THE INIFINTE HAND OF LOVE, HIS PROMISES by Faith, and you will be free to walk in the newness of Life Eternal, He promised.

Cease from listening to the devil, who tries to heap upon you all of your past mistakes, all of your past transgressions, all of your failings anf faults, for CHRIST JESUS is already victorious over that liar. Realizing the enormity and mountainous stain of sin, and recognize that you have indeed broken the Ten Commandments of God, who loves you, do not let these things overwhelm you in the flood, you need not drown beneath those great and dark waves of sin, but say, even as Peter, "Lord, save me." and His hand is immediately there to take hold of you and to lift you up from such degredations and to give you a new life, and new ways to follow Him and obey Him in all that he requires, which is really not asking so much...

The peace which passes all understanding is waiting for you, the love and joy of God is here. There is no peace in transgression of God's Holy Law, and no rest for the wicked [Revelation 14:11], and why? For they reject the only way in which peace and atonement with God may be found.

"O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:" [Isaiah 48:18]

"And he said, My presence shall go [with thee], and I will give thee rest." [Exodus 33:11]

"And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve," [Isaiah 14:3]

"Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." [Matthew 11:28]

And that burden, that ever increasing weight, is your sins, your transgressions against all of the Commandments of God:

"...Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin." [John 8:34;p]

And the sign that we truly believe in this Creator/Redeemer God? Consider closely His 4th Commandment ["the 7th day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God"; Exodus 20:8-11; Deuteronomy 5:12-15]... Be clean from all transgression,

"Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I [am] the LORD that sanctify them." [Ezekiel 20:12]

...He is desiring to give you rest. Trust Him, Follow Him, Rest with Him, for if we do not want His rest, we shall never have rest. Cease from rebellion, lay down your arms which are taken up against God, surrender... and you will be His son or His daughter...

The Gospel of Peace...and the forgiveness of sins, and the cleansing of the whole person, be at-one-ed with God today.
