Hi

first a general Question:
Are you part of the Catholic Church in Communion with Rome, or are the people here of various "liberal Catholic denominations" like Old Catholic Church/Utrecht, Liberal Catholic Church, PNCC and others?

So, now, if you are part of the CC:

Do you recieve the Holy Communion at a mass?

Because my dad is also Catholic, but doesn't recieve Communion because he says that he doesn't accept all the teachings, because he is a "Liberal".

Now, I am also a "non-devout" Catholic, but have been attending a Baptist Church for 2 years now and I, although I also don't believe in all the teachings of the RCC, feel called to the Lord's Table when I am in a mass (which is rather seldom, mostly with my family on High Church Feasts.)

Hoping for answers,
yours,
in Christ Jesus,
Esdra

I don't receive because I'm not considered "officially" Catholic yet.
Although I've been validly baptized since I was 9, since I'm 99% self-catechized, they want me to at least go through the motions of RCIA.

But the church I attend is part of the regular RCC. If pressed by need, I could go to an Old Catholic church, or even an Eastern Orthodox church, but at the very least my own personal requirement is a church that still holds valid apostolic orders.

Technically, this forum is for people who are in communion with Rome, but disagree with certain things. The technical home of Old Catholics/Liberal Catholics is Scripture, Tradition, Reason: the forum they share with the Anglicans. Nevertheless, this particular forum has morphed into something of a home for Old Catholics as well as liberal Catholics (small L intentional).

So, now, if you are part of the CC:

Yes.

Because my dad is also Catholic, but doesn't recieve Communion because he says that he doesn't accept all the teachings, because he is a "Liberal".

What your father is doing is probably the "correct" thing to do, depending on exactly what he disagrees with. Catholics are permitted to disagree with certain things and still be in good theological standing. In the Catholic Church, to commune is, aside from receiving Christ, to make a declaration before Christ, the Church, and all present that you assent to Catholic dogma and doctrine. It is the highest sign of unity, which leads me to my next point...

Which is in direct violation of canon law (unless you happen to have a dispensation from the local bishop, which I doubt) and shows a lack of respect for the teachings of the Catholic Church regarding communion. Catholics, Orthodox, and other groups practice closed communion for a reason. To take communion with these groups means you are saying you assent to everything they believe and that you are in full (not partial) union with them.

A random priest isn't going to stop you from taking communion, because they don't know your situation. Many probably wouldn't stop you anyway if they knew your situation. But you really should respect the beliefs of Catholicism on this issue. The Eucharist is the central belief, above all others.

I think Dark_Lite addressed most of your post so I will just add some comments about your initial questions. I am a "card carrying" Catholic, which has greatly upset some on this and other forums. In regards to what I believe, I don't see myself as that much different than most of the Catholics I know. I am just more vocal about it. Over the decades I have talked to several priests about my doubts, questions and disputes. Invariably they have told me "not to worry about it", that other people have similar doubts and concerns. Not one ever said I should leave the Church or not receive communion. In fact, one priest told me about the "pastoral solution", which Dark_Lite alluded to, where a person could go to another parish where their situation wasn't known. He said that was quite common.

In my current parish, and in my former parishes, I have never felt out of place. Most of the time, my fellow parishioners had no idea what I thought, and I doubt it would have made much difference to them. Nor did I care what they believed; what was more important to me was what they DID, in actions and words. I rarely heard anyone talking about the Vatican or doctrines; their conversations were oriented more toward pastoral concerns.

I would say that most of the posters on this sub-forum are similar to me, in that they are baptized, practicing (Roman) Catholics. We just think a little differently (or more) than most "cradle Catholics" do.

Yes, I am fully part of the RCC.

I don't receive the Communion anymore because I have theological disagreements and also because there is 1-2 sins which I haven't repented for.

Over the decades I have talked to several priests about my doubts, questions and disputes. Invariably they have told me "not to worry about it", that other people have similar doubts and concerns. Not one ever said I should leave the Church or not receive communion.

In my experience also no priest has ever told me to leave the Church because of my disagreements, but countless non-priests catholics have. (This is also the reason why sometimes I change my title from "Catholic" to "Christian", because someone has accused me of being a bad example and I should not call myself catholic at all)

Hello- One thing no one else has mentioned is that the poster switches between going to Baptist and then RCC services ! That is truly 2 ends of the spectrum. I know- I have been to a number of Baptist services. When you are there, do you have to hide that you are a Catholic, or a pseudo-Catholic? From my experience, they can be very anti-Catholic. Some can be quite hostile about it.
Good luck, and God Bless,
Ken L.
