Afghans imprison a rape victim, force marriage to her attacker

I'm shocked how so many people want to change the definition of marriage! It has always included rapists marrying the woman. Its an attack on tradition is what this is! This is a religious issue, and the government should stay out of it!

The woman does not face HAVING to marry her attacker.

However, a Karzai spokesman told CNN such a marriage is not a condition of the release.

You recognize that, and I recognize that, but do the leaders of our governments recognize that? Until they do, how effective can they be?

What kind of society allows that kind of stuff????

I do not see how this can be viewed in any way other then recompense for damage to the mans property, in this case that being the virginity of his daughter and her viability as a bride.

Are you seriously trying to compare religious beliefs from 4000 years ago, beliefs that have gone through significant reform and haven't been binding for millenia, to the core beliefs of a current religious/political/cultural death cult, beliefs that have not gone through ANY reform in the 1400 years of their existense, except to become even more primative and oppressive? Is that how sad your obssession is that you refuse to even understand the significance of the very real differences between religious teachings, belief systems, and reformations?

Let's make it easy for you. Modern day Judaism and Christianity do not believe women are possessions: modern day Islam does. Modern Western cultures do not believe women are possessions; modern Islamic cultures do.
