BTW, how do they camp out overnight in the Occupy rallies anyway?
Apparently, not in Zuccotti Park any more ...
Police closed off the camp for four to five blocks in all directions, Anup Desai, a spokesman for Occupy Wall Street, said in a telephone interview.

“A few hundred camped there today. Their belongings, their tents, everything that they had with them was taken,” he said.

No NHE, I was talking about all the other places.

See, on a personal note, I have trouble camping outside PERIOD. I could only imagine doing it for, for many of these people, SIXTY straight days.

Just Another Occupy Wall Street Post: Why Is It Getting So Violent Up in There? | The Halls of Neo Arcadia

Honestly, I don't like how one side likes to call themselves the more peaceful or tolerant one. I think the comment I saw before I took a break of apples and oranges worked best here. The rallies are two different kinds of rallies.

BTW, how do they camp out overnight in the Occupy rallies anyway?

Because that's what anarchists do- promote anarchy in all its glory. In all fairness- one side can take the moral high ground for being way less violent, so far. The violence bothers me way more than the people who are rubbing it in everyone's faces about how nonviolent they are. Like it or not- these groups have set themselves up as diametrically opposed to each other (and they aren't wrong in pointing it out). Whatever haphazard message the OWS types have has been marginalized and rendered moot by their violence. Wait- that is what they're all about- nothing holding them back from what they want. That is the OWS message. These bourgeoisie who are masquerading as 99 percenters are just anarchists and that they're acting on that idea should come as no surprise to any who value morals, civilization, and even the role of a minimal government.

I'm assuming all the other places will soon follow suit.

Now ... I never considered your question in that light, Harpuia. I've never had trouble camping ... except for getting my wife to go, LOL. Some of my most memorable and enjoyable moments in life were spent back-backing in complete isolation away from civilization. After a week or more, it's hard to go back to the rat race. It's a remarkably natural state ... life is good ... not that I'd wanna pitch a tent in with OWS or anything.

Maybe it helps to look to God.

I think it might be my IBS I got three years ago. It also didn't help that I tried practicing with a tiny tent in our backyard when I was eight. It was a summer night in Vegas and the temperature was STILL over 100. And a bee stung me. Yeah. Not fun.

I really wish people would use a word other than "anarchy" to describe acts of violence. I'm an Anarchist and I'm fairly nice person. I don't go around assaulting and murdering people or anything like that. Last time I got in a fight was when I was kid in Jr High School.

Kinda seems like you have to make a choice, Ishraqiyun.

Either you accept that the word anarchist is defined by commonly accepted usage, as reflected in modern dictionaries.

Or, you continue to call yourself an anarchist ... knowing others will judge you by the commonly accepted definition for the term.

Your choice, Ishraqiyun. How do you want to be perceived ... nice guy or anarchist?

It's kind of like using the word "gay" to mean "lame" or "stupid". That meaning has really caught on in popular usage. Might even show up in a dictionary that includes slang terms. Doesn't mean it's right for people to use the word that way though.

I am guilty of that. I am trying to curb it like I did with most of my stoner speak.

Excellent example, Ishraqiyun.

When I was a kid, gay meant not at all what it's most common usage is today. Languages change. Dictionaries are descriptive, not prescriptive.

why is it getting so violent?
because what started as questioning the ambiguous corporate rights of various companies got twisted back on the protesters. and it became instead a question of personal rights and personal territory, and who had the most might.

nothing new, of course. this has been happening for centuries with every civilization. but the news networks would like us to believe that today's protest is something that has 1. never happened before and that 2. we should know all about it, because that's what brings in viewers and sells air time. :p

I can sort of see it that way. The media sensationalizes a lot of things though. Wasn't it MSN that stated that Wall Street has had a history of protests against it in the past?

I walked in one of these a few weeks back in San Francisco, everyone was so kind just wanting to get their point across. I am almost wondering if these pot stirrer are being planted to cause some major trouble in a way to try and shut it all down.
