From the OP article:

"For Juanita Broaddrick, who came forward in February 1999 to say Clinton raped her, only three stories ...

Yes, three stories were broadcast on the networks.

... followed charges appearing in the Wall Street Journal."
Yes, the three stories on ABC, NBC and CBS were broadcast after the breaking news story appeared in the Wall Street Journal.

Back in the old days, print journalists did most of the investigative reporting and released the initial stories.

That claim the by the OP article is a blatant lie as proven by the cnn story I linked.
No.

The fact that CNN covered Broaddrick is irrelevant. Then, as now, CNN provided 24 hour news coverage. The MRC article was about CBS, ABC and NBC coverage - not about CNN coverage.

Are you serious? The op article claimed there were only three stories about broaddrick and all three were in the WSJ. I linked a cnn story proving that false.

Oops! I misread the op article and now see what you are pointing out. My bad!!

That's the M0. Never admit mistakes and wriggle like a worm using semantic arguments to avoid doing so.

Amazing how one person can derail so many threads playing petty games of semantics.

OK.

Back it up ... that's the rule here. Prove that he denied it.

.

You are correct, I don't think I have heard him deny it. But he has said he "forgot" things about that case that he's later remembered. My point was, I don't know how you can forget things regarding such huge allegations. I'ts not like he's forgetting the details of a parking ticket.

Drudge had nothing to do with any of the scandals in the OP. Your failure is complete. I have had enough of this nonsense, and I hope others just simply ignore your semantic games. tootles
What it proves is that contrary to the claims that those incidents broke before the Internet and then, after the goalposts moved, before there was much of an Internet, that there was indeed a significant Internet. Otherwise, how could Drudge have broken the Lewinsky scandal which happened during the same time period. While you claim you worked in the computer field and can vouch that there was not much of an Internet, many of the rest of us were using the Internet daily during that same time. Good try, but fail on your part. The OP makes a significant observation and the idea that the Internet was not available to break those storeies has been debunked, thanks to Matt Drudge's journalistic contribution during that time period.

If it was baseless there wouldn't have been a settlement. The innocent don't pay off their accusers.

Actually, it happens all the time. A $$45,000 settlement is cheaper often than the legal fees required to win a lawsuit. A confidentiality agreement prevents the accuser from wrongfully claiming the settlement substantiated the allegations

That's a false dilemma because the third option is to pay to make it disappear. Protection rackets aren't limited to the sopranos.

What does concern me is him saying he didnt know much about the settlement. Why would he let someone else settle the charges without approving the conditions?

Cain has used the term "recused". I found it curious and am not even sure it's applicable to the situation. Still, it seems to capture the essence of Cain's assertion that he stayed out of it. Sounds like good business practice to me ... after all, he couldn't objectively adjudicate himself.

Had it escalated to the legal system, he'd have been involved ...

How is it good business practice to allow a sexual harassment case to settle without knowing the conditions? But I like his approach from a certain angle because if I ever get accused of anything I will just recuse myself. Lol...

What I read it that at least one settlement occurred after he had stepped down as CEO of the National Restaurant Association.

Here's The National Restaurant Association's Statement On The Cain Scandal - Business Insider
“Based upon the information currently available, we can confirm that more than a decade ago, in July 1999, Mr. Bennett’s client filed a formal internal complaint, in accordance with the Association’s existing policies prohibiting discrimination and harassment. Mr. Herman Cain disputed the allegations in the complaint. The Association and Mr. Bennett’s client subsequently entered into an agreement to resolve the matter, without any admission of liability. Mr. Cain was not a party to that agreement. The agreement contains mutual confidentiality obligations. Notwithstanding the Association’s ongoing policy of maintaining the privacy of all personnel matters, we have advised Mr. Bennett that we are willing to waive the confidentiality of this matter and permit Mr. Bennett’s client to comment. As indicated in Mr. Bennett’s statement, his client prefers not to be further involved with this matter and we will respect her decision.

It doesn't make any sense for him to be accused, have a settlement, and him being unaware of the conditions of the settlement.
But he wasn't part of the settlement. It sounds as though the suit was brought against him as a representative of the company rather than him personally (it is not illegal for a person to sexually harass someone in the same way as it is illegal for a company or a company's representative to do so). Since he was a high-ranking officer, the lawyers may have deliberately shielded him from having knowledge. Plus, as he was no longer with the company at settlement time, he wouldn't have access to the legal documents which were sealed with the participants barred from public disclosure.

To me, it's more than plausible that he wasn't aware of the details of the settlement, less plausible that he was unaware that there was a settlement involving payout to the woman and not in the least bit plausible that he was unaware of the existence of the suit against the company.

That's one - but what about the other two? Not to mention the emergent fourth?

If they all stay anonymous, then Cain wins.

If a women doesn't want to have her life turned upside down by the media and to be attacked for speaking out against him that means she wasn't harassed? It's possible she wasn't but I really don't think her fear of speaking out and becoming the next sex scandal celebrity proves anything that conclusively.

Yes, that's what it means. Also if she ever had a traffic ticket that means she's a dirty liar not to be trusted.

I know I sure as heck would not want to go public under the circumstances - look how the uber-respectable Hill got slimed.
