New lens on its way to my welcoming arms today. =) Hopefully better quality than the last one I bought. I was less than impressed with that one, so I sent it back.

It's all stormy here today, so I don't know whether I'll be able to get out and jog today. =( Boo! It also means I can't get out to play with the new lens. Double Boo!

You should have gotten the Tamron 11-18. I LOVE that lens! It does an amazing job!

Nope. I can tell by reading the reviews that I wouldn't be pleased with that one either.

I ended up getting a pretty good deal on the Sigma 8-16mm from a friend. I did end up getting out to jog today, and then after that I took the lens around the track once for pictures. I've got a really good first impression. Sharp, good colors and MAN is it WIDE. =) I look forward to using it some more.

Here's a picture of the scenery where I jog.

Not the greatest pictures. I need to figure out which metering mode is best with this kind of wide angle. I usually use spot, but switched to evaluative for this. I also need to get the knack of where to focus when you're dealing with such a wide angle, and landscapes.

Lots to learn!

Not sure what the reviews said, but I have not had any issues with it at all. The color is great, shapness is tack on, everything is good about the lens. Although 8 is a good bit wider than 11! Just imagine that 8mm lens on a full frame camera!

It's not that I ready anything extremely bad..
I'm just extremely picky, since I expect to have these lenses for a very long time. I wanted a lens that would perform better with chromatic aberration and barrel distortion than the Tamron. The problem I had with the 10-20 was that the colors seemed dull (which can be fixed, but I hate having extra steps to edit). I would have just sucked it up and lived with it if my friend hadn't put her 8-16 up for sale. The 8-16 is one of the best ultra-wide lenses available at this point.. it's what I originally wanted, but didn't want to fork out $700.

I am SO happy that it is what I ended up with.. and got a good deal on it too.

The new lens that I want costs about $2000, a Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 I sold a guy one of my SB600 Sleedlights last night and he had one of those. It is a SCHWEET lens!

Yeah, that's the one I mentioned on the Synod page.

I really want it now that I used my f/2.8 for shooting portraits of Mrs. G last night. But before that, I want the fully auto f/1.4 50mm prime. I really need that for indoor portraiture as the 90mm f/2.8 prime requires me to get about 15 feet away from the subject in order to shoot a 3/4 profile.

Makes sense.

I think our next one will be a super telephoto. I saw so many different birds where I jogged yesterday that I'd love to go there with a telephoto and bird-watch. I have no idea which one yet... I think I have it narrowed down to three: the Canon 100-400L, or the Sigma 50-500mm or the Canon 400mm f/5.6L. I think I'm leaning toward the Sigma though. I have a friend who shoots with it, and loves it. Gonna be a while before I get any new toys though. Haha! I do hope to get a new speedlite in the fall though. I miss my flash.

The Sigma Super Telephoto sounds awesome. I could do serious damage with that!!!

No doubt. It's nickname is the "Bigma". That lens is a beast. I think it weighs over 4 pounds. My 24-70mm is pretty heavy at 2 lbs. Maybe I need to start weight lifting.
