Why is that? I tend to find it annoying. I rather have a post it note or you tell me what you wanted me to hear.
I think any girl who might ever want to date me will have to hit me over the head for me to figure it out. :p

It is seen as being a pretty good way of figuring out if the guy likes you without having to ever put your heart on the line or risk anything.

Of course, these hints are often so small and of such questionable logic that many guys will not pick up on them. This leads some girls to think that no guy has ever or will ever be interested in them.

Umm, guys do it, too. Just check out all the "I like this girl, but how do I let her know" threads and posts. I mean, according to you, guys should be handing us girls post-it's with messages on them. Sure would make our lives easier as well.

Plzkthxbye.

I think it's because some of us think it means less if we have to ask. I find it irritating if I have to TELL you overtly what I want for my birthday. If I mention ten times over a month that I LOVE James Avery this should be something you should know about me and it should occur to you because you care about me as a person and want to make me happy to go to James Avery to get me something for my birthday. I shouldn't have to give you the magazine with the post it note on the particular thing I want. It loses some of the personal nature when I have to do that. It means you don't pay attention. (not you you, you global you... :p). It means less when you don't pay attention to someone else and notice their needs, likes and wants in life.

I neither give hints or take them.

Mostly because I am too blunt to figure out how to hint and have a dash of impatience that makes it hard for me to wait for someone to figure it out.

I don't take hints because I am just oblivious.

This, too! I was thinking the thread was more about meeting someone or initial interest. But Irene's post says it perfectly about when you're already in a relationship.

Guys can't claim the "clueless" thing forever. Seriously.

:amen:

The only time I'm a hint giver is in showing romantic interest. I don't ask guys out or am direct about how I feel any longer. I've been direct before and he seemed intimidated (maybe not the right word, but given the other thread, I had to use it) by my directness. I know the guy liked me, so that wasn't the problem. And I've found that by hinting my interest (I'm not subtle), if a guy is truly interested in dating me, he will ask me out.
So, my hint giving I'm blaming on you men...or rather on the men in my past who liked me romantically, but were intimidated by directness and/or needed to feel like the pursuers.
