Snopes is one of the most balanced web pages there is, meticulously documenting the confirmation or debunking of popular talking points or rumours. It is for this reason that many have turned on it over the last few years: falsehoods hate footnotes. If someone dismisses Snopes as biased or unreliable, they typically do so out of a lack of respect for facts, reality or logic.

indeed. its why you just hear "pshh, snopes" rather than "that's incorrect, because THIS actually happened and here is documentation"

Slightly OT: has anybody ever attempted to do a political/sociological analysis of those Fwd: Fwd: UNBELIEVABLE! MUST READ e-mails that always turn out to be wrong on Snopes or someplace else that collects them? Maybe it's just my liberal bias but it seems to me like there are three outspokenly conservative ones to one liberally-tinted.

IIRC, the Bible says a few things about bearing false witness. Though maybe its OK if it means attacking your political opponent.

Snopes isn't accurate because it contests the chain emails I base all of my political beliefs and values on.

Unfortunately not: an "exclusive" e-mail filter is both a burden and a curse it would seem.

Although I would imagine that, if your guess is correct, we could both probably think of the reason why.
