hey bro, i come from a simaler background, i used to be heavy into the satanic metal when i was younger
black sabbath,ozzy,metallica the whole deal.
actually still listened to some of it AFTER i was saved but i felt the lord convict me on it and i asked forgiveness and felt something evil just leave me and i had peace,
speaking as a musician i can say music is a VERY powerfull thing, and can be used for good or for evil.
that kind of music is pure evil and will drag you down and harm you spiritually

by the way i'm still a huge Metalhead, it's just now both what i listen to and play is all Christian Metal. and although i will listen to secular metal sometimes i'm very carefull about what i'm exposing myself to that it's clean and non-harmfull

ps since your a fellow musician if ya ever want to talk about things of that manner feel free to buzz me.........

wow, powerfull.

I don't want this to sound as if I worship the devil, because I most certanly wouldn't give him the time of day, or night for that matter.

personnaly I love Heavy metal, I am not into many different bands, but It is the 80's bands that I love, in particular, Metallica. Metallica is my favorite band of all. but I like AD/DC iron madien, mezzfetz (missfits), it is the NWOBHM that really interests me. I come from a musical aspect. I say wow james heitfeild's solo at measure 200 is fanamanal. I am not like wow, kurt cobaine killed himself so I want to die now.

I like to listen and thing about the lyrics. but I would never worship them. the breaks the 10 comandmends right there, no other god befor him. I belive that it would be a false idol. but anyway, I look at swearing like this, what does it matter? 2000 years ago, I can tell you there was no such thing as swearing. what does 10 or so words realy do? and any way, almost all of the "swear words" had different meanings when they were created. I feel it isn't wrong as long as it isn't meant to hurt some one. think about this.

what is worse?
that movie was F***ing awsome

your a jerk.

so I really don't mind that much. but I also, do judge bands on there religion too, I like the band project 86 and demon hunter alot. but abit ago I read a book I can't think of the title, but bassically it sat down with bands and talked to them about there religions, that was really interesting. I will look for the title cause it is in depth heavy metal.

now as far as these songs being strait from hell. I really don't think so. so thing OH YA i can see that easy! but others I would question. like Metallica's mamma said. all it is is james expressing his feelings for his mother now that she is gone, and he misses her. or something like motorbreath, it simply means that were all going way to fast we need to slow our lives down.

the reason I am really defending metallica is, all the members of the band quit there drugs quit the alcohol and everything and that really is an acomplishment.

oh well, I am sorry for wasting your time hehe, I am just rambleing on and on. I think it is bed time for me now.

another thing I was thinging is, I wouldn't say that the people of the bands are satanic, I would say that the music sounds satanic maybe.

the problem with the newer heavymetal or the numetal is it is all so emotional, it is all oh my girlfriend dumped me, and I am crying and I want to die.

I was listing to I think it was hoobestank, and I hear "now that your bleading you stair at the ceiling and wish it would all go away"

that is rediculess. stuff like that makes my barf :(

:amen:

So, for the most part I agree completely with what he said.

I am glad that you overcame a struggle in your life, but....I just don't see how metal is trully bad.
I mean, sometimes music like that needs to be played. At least for me. I would rather turn on a NIN CD then punch a wall or something. I would chose Christian metal before any of it, but....meh. I'm rambling and getting off of the subject.

I say congratulations for overcomming you're addiction.

Hi.....i am not a metal fan, but i ahve watched a video on it in which the Guy doing the show takes secular in terviews and biographys etc written by members of different rock groups, and quite a lot of them were heavily influenced by Alistair Crowley...even the Stones and Even Jimi Hendrix.
He shows evidence of them invoking Demons etc, and also it comes mainly from their own mouths so we know they really did.

Its called Rock and Roll sorcerors of the new age, i think you can get it on the web.
It also deals with other secular music, and the backmasking messages....

i am not saying they are all the same....but some are like that and we have to use wisdom....

Grace and Peace to you in Jesus name

Suggestive music can influence a receptive person who has little to no moral center. The images and words portrayed by gifted musicians with their instruments can influence the mood to an extent, sure enough. That being said, I think some people read too much into the lyrics of songs. For instance, consider an epic rock album, a truly creative masterpiece. I am not going to slam the entire album because one song eludes to altered states of consciousness. I know that drugs are bad, mm'kay? I have far too much appreciation for the tremendous gift of music given to all of us on the rest of the album.

Music is not intended to give us direction in life, God does that. Some of this secular music is not explicitly glorifying God, we can all agree on that. However, I listen to a secular album and thank God for the gift given to these people and for giving me the opportunity to experience their wonderful gift.

That's funny. I used to be a hard core Nine Inch Nails fan, and although I still listen to the music *though not nearly as much as I used to*, I find the lyrics laughable now. In fact, I feel bad for the singers and musicians to these bands because they have no idea... no clue.. what they are doing or what they are in for. At least, on a good note, the lead singer of Nine Inch Nails has been clean and sober for a few years now and has found "happiness".. I quoted happiness because I fear that he found it in the wrong thing(s). Oh... and that any new releases has redirected political anger instead of self loathing and blasphemy.

Over 20 years ago I was an amateur songwriter, and I hung out with some club bands. I was mainly into Heavy Metal like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and the like. I can honestly say both the lyrics and style of music were nothing but the voice of Satan tempting me. If they sang about drugs or devil worship, it must be OK, I thought. So I did those things. The escalation of my drug & alcohol use, and my occultism escalated parallel to the music I listened to.

Black Sabbath songs like N.I.B. (Which stands for "Nativity in Black, I later found out) and "Lord of this World" sparked a deffinite interest in the occult. With some of the musicians I hung around with I cursed Christians, and we even played music near a church to try to cast a spell on the Christians.

Even as a Christian I struggled with this music. I noted that just the style of beat alone could influence people. While working out in the gym I could normally lift about 245 - 250 lbs. on the bench press. But if someone turned on Ac/Dc (Usually the song Hells Bells, or Highway to Hell) I found I could press up to 275 lbs, and I could do more reps as well.

Its been scientifically proven that the beat of music influences the heart rate, releases adrenaline, and has an effect on attitude. One day at work a few years ago a lady friend of mine working next to me told me to watch how people worked when either Heavy Metal or hard core Rap was played. Sure enough, the quality of work decreased, and we noticed a change in attitudes for the worse. When mellower music ws put on, or no music, the quality of work got better. We observed this over several weeks.

I knew from my involvement that there are backmasked messages in a lot of rock music. Although you can't hear them consciously, these words still go into your brain subconsciously, and the brain like a computer makes them a subconscious thought which can surface later. I've listened to tapes that show this to be proved by scientific testing.

As a Christian I can honestly say that every time I allowed myself to listen to Heavy Metal, I backslid. Maybe I never went back to what I was, but I did get very distant from the Lord. I stopped going to church, stopped praying, and my Bibles collected dust. In their place I would write songs and record music on tapes.

One song I wrote in 1991 had these lyrics: (Don't forget, I'd been saved several years already & even ministered in churches by that time)

"I'm living with your sin!
It cries out in my soul!
Never ends, always begins.
Cause to lose control.
Deceased kings speak to me and I have seen the world through their eyes, yeah!"

That doesn't sound to Christ inspired, does it?
And those are just the opening lyrics. The rest is worse, so I wont write it.

I also realized that by buying rock & Heavy metal tapes that I was only supporting the artists: many of whom are in the occult and are drug addicts. Think of it this way. The musicians who die from drug overdoses purchase those drugs from money earned from the royalties to their music. Those who buy their music are contributing to their deaths!

It grieves me when I hear Christians defend rock music and say things such as, "It doesn't bother me," or "I still live for God," or "If people do bad things because of rock & roll, its because they're weak minded."

The Word of God tells us to have NO FELLOWSHIP WITH THE UNFRUITFUL WORKS OF DARKNESS. Anyone who can't see this music is a work of darkness has to be spiritually blind. I admit I was and I THANK GOD HE SHOWED ME MY ERROR AND DELIVERED ME.

There are evil spirits in that music, and this I know for fact. In the occult we purposely invoked demons, summonsed demons to be in the songs! I've read expose`s that reveal the professional bands often do the same. The Rolling Stones was one of the most notorious to have done this.

Rock music had a BIG hold on me, and was one of my struggles for years on and off, even as a Christian. I thank God for his power and his deliverance from Satan who uses rock music to establish strongholds in many lives. I pray that God show anyone whose still involved in this music that it needs to be repented of. what does it glorify? Sex, drugs, satan, and violence? then what are we doing listening to it? Jesus called us out of the world to be sanctified, not to be partaking in the sins of the world.

PRAISE GOD FOR FREEDOM FROM THIS SIN!

Christian rock isn't bad. I believe christian rock is out there to reach those people that listen to those worldly groups. Christian rock has a positive message in it and is used to interest those in the occult to listen to it and they can get saved. Do you think someone in the occult that listens to heavy music is going to want to listen to christian contempotary? Probally not and Christian rock is used to reach those people.

There are a number of Heavy Metal bands that sing about Jesus and have lyrical themes of Christianity.

Exactly! No generalization, please ;)
If you like rock/metal music, don't stand out it. I know more artists/bands who sings about Jesus and Heaven than Satan and Hell  Lol.
I think God likes not only classical music and church songs :D

That's awesome mate! I was a big listener to Metal too. But it's all influenced by Satan.

People say there is Christian Metal, but it just doesn't sit with me well.

Apostle Paul said "When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me."
