• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I'm really afraid that all my life will just feel wasted when death is coming for me. And at the same time there is nothing I want to do that I feel would make it less wasted. I have no dreams, no goals, no interests. All of it seems meaningless to me. I'm so afraid of dying like this, with this hopeless feeling.

I read something very interesting once - I read that a purposeful life is one in which we love others unconditionally - that we give our hearts to others - whether its with prayer, whether its with feelings of compassion, or whether its giving undonditional kindness towards others.

Sister Mary Faustina Kowalska said it best: "it doesn't matter what we do and how great it is - what matters is that we do it with love."

Don't despair about wasting your life. Life is never wasted when its been travelled with love. Society can make us feel so bad when we don't produce great feats - they forget that in the end, its the ones which dwell in our hearts that really matter.

What an awesome post. I hope the OP reads and fully understands the depth of your insight here. Well done.

For my own input, watch IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE. We never know the degree of affect we have on those with which we interact. We don't know how much we touch the lives of others, but that doesn't mean our life is meaningless, it just means we don't necessarily see it.

Hi Lucis,
Been there and felt that, which I can say with all honesty.

So, here's a bit about me, hence my experience. I'm 23, divorced, have sole custody of my little boy and have been on CF since 2004. Oh, and have some severe mental health issues for which I am in current treatment, but have tried to end my life in the past over. I vividly recall one night I was very depressed and I young girl reached out to me. Within minutes I completely turned my despair into giving her hope..that night she didn't die, and I will never know how completely I helped her...I helped her more than once out of my suffering when she was depressed and contemplating ending her life, and I was there, even though I felt like I didn't help her, I got a letter from her brother last week thanking me, unfortunately, the circumstances surrounding such were not the best. Nonetheless, I know now that I really touched this girl, when, until now, I never realized how much I had done for her.

Please know that even when you don't realize it, someone might be fighting for life through you. No joke here.

I am here if you want to chat.
