I can see the point of hating Valentines Day, but really, why let it ruin February 14th? Another day where God's mercies are fresh. A day devoted to love, to us, real love, true love. Agapao love from God to man. We don't despise Father's day or Mother's day because we aren't parents. I can see where you're coming from, but don't let the singleness of our lives cast any negative lights. God is our Husband, Maker, Lover, Groom. We are already taken and completely loved. We don't need a mate, unless God brings one to us.

You never know what God can do to change a commercialized-cheap-version of love into a passionate-living and breathing unconditional love, perhaps one day Valentines day will be all about the gift Jesus gave? Or a celebration about being part of the Bride of Christ? We can change it, by changing us.

Umm, it strikes me as kind of a bleak world view. Valentines day is fun, so what if it's over commercialized? What isn't?

So if you're that worried about it, do you not give out and accept Christmas presents on 12/25? Jesus birthday actually is closer to the end of september, so it important that the we get the date right, or we celebrate it for the right reasons?

I hate Valentines Day with a passion, and its not just cos im single.

Its wrong, society has commercialised love, they have managed to market it. "If you love your partner you will spend the most amount of money on them" "Only losers dont have a date on valentines day"

Did you know that there are more suicides on Valentiens day then any other day of the year?

Im going on strike.

i wont be wishing anyone a happy valentines day.

I agree. It just makes single people feel inferior. Whenever I walk into Walmart and see the displays, part of me wants to have someone to give something to. And another part of me is relieved that i don't.

I sort of agree with the original poster here. Valentines day is getting way too commercial. Let's just take the Charlie Brown's Valentine Special for example, because I think it explains a lot in the 20-30 minutes of show. First Charlie Brown goes to class with all these high expectations of getting all these Valentines cards and he goes home with zero, nada, none. He gets extremely depressed over the whole situation. Then the next day after some of the class feel guilty they didn't give one card to Charlie Brown they come back and Violet gives him one of the used Valentines she recieved. Buying someones affection. The sad thing is poor old Charlie accepts the Valentine and does not get it at all. That love cannot bought at all with cards, candy, balloons or whatever it may be. Love comes from the heart and it comes unconditionally.

I've actually gotten to the point where I've forgotten all about Valentine's Day. Of course it would be nice to spend it with somebody but it doesn't bother me as much as being single on Christmas or New Years. So I'm pretty "meh" about it all. I guess another good thing about it this year is that it's on a Saturday so you don't have to see your co-workers or classmates walking around with stuff their valentine sent them. What I AM looking forward to is that this V-day is a 3 day weekend for me so that means travel for moi and I'm going to Chicago! I had to get out of town. Going crazy with work and life.

I am not against the idea of valentines day, its great that there is a day devoted to showing our love but really couples should show that they love each other all year round.

Its doesn't have to be commercial, people have a choice - they can either give in and buy lots of presents or celebrate valentines in a less materialistic way.

In my opinion, protesting against Valentine's Day is kind of like protesting against puppies and kittens.

ugh..

Ever single day on the calendar, from Jan 1 to December 31, only contains the value that you assign to it. You can't blame it on other people, you can't blame it on the media, or religion, or people's values, or anything, because the value you assign to any day is completely and 100% at your own personal discretion.

Therefor, if you hate any of those days, I feel very sorry for that situation, as you are choosing to assign a negative value to said day for really no good reason.

If you don't like valentine's day... change it into something you do like, assign it a new value. But if you subscribe to the values, ideas, or issues of people around you, that includes "x-amount of people commit suicide on Valentine's Day", that is still fully under your control to simply unsubscribe mentally and re-assign that particular day.

Life has the potential to be exactly and completely whatever you make it out to be.

Apparently you've never heard of the term "Sugar Daddy" or "Sugar Momma" :p

For some reason...I never felt deprived or upset when I didn't have a guy to celebrate Vday with. When I did see all the decorations though, it was usually along the lines of, "What the...We just celebrated Christmas yesterday...and they have Vday stuff up already?"

However, I also never hated single life...unless for a few days with long days of not in between. Dunno why...I think I like my independence and if I want a guy and there is a guy...then great.

I will probably go out somewhere that day, and not to mention happy that I don't have to blow a wad of cash on chocolates/flowers.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather be making out with an amazing, kindhearted woman, but I will still be Happy nonetheless.
