Morning All,

This is a great forum and really encouraging. The decision to be childfree is a very personal one for each of us; my wife and I have decide to be childfree and it something we have discussed before getting married and of late. It gives us the opportunity to serve God with all our hearts.

We want to work overseas for a season and give all our time and energy into this. This part is being worked on and we hope to fully fill this part of our hopes and dreams in the next few years.

My question is – because you have chosen to be childfree does that give you more time to serve God in the way he has put a desire on your hearts? :)

Hi Langley, and welcome!

Yes, not having children frees me up so much to be able to serve in other ways. There are so many people already working in the children's ministries at church, but there are a lot of other areas that would be difficult for those with kids to serve in.

Not only do we have more time to devote to it, but it's time when other people are busy with soccer games or getting homework done. We don't have to worry about anyone else's schedule but ours, so we have the ability to fill in with time slots that are often under staffed for various ministries.

Well...it means more time for school and 3D...which makes me happy! As far a serving God. I think it's kinda hard to say whether being Childfree per say helps. Sure it give more time for being involved with ministries, but of course, there are so many diverse ways one can God!

Since my husband isn't Christian, I think it probably does help. I don't have to tote kids around on my own, nor do I need to arrange for childcare when I'm off doing something church-y while my husband is working or something like that.

I don't think it would make a difference if we were both Christian, though. My parents were plenty active in the church despite their four children.
