Hi!!

When Mrs. Redguard and I got married, we had a videographer collect a whole bunch of raw footage on video, but he wasn't a video editor... just a friend who worked at the television station that my MIL worked at.

So for the past five years, we've just had raw footage from our wedding sitting on a tape.

Well now, MIL has befriended a video editor at her station and has convinced her to edit our footage onto a fancy schmancy DVD.

She's asking us for still-photos and MP3s of the music that we want to play as a soundtrack during certain scenes, etc.

If it were you guys... would you include 2008 music? Or would you try to restrict it to music that was hot back in the year (and the years leading up to...) when you got married?

At our reception, we played on a bit of an oldies theme, so we have a lot of 50s/60s Motown. We're just not sure if we should send this editor songs that we like that have only recently gotten air play.

In 20 years, the songs on the radio this morning are not going to hold much meaning for you. But the Motown 50's/60's song had enough meaning to you that you played them at your wedding, and when you "hear" your wedding in your memory 20 years from now, that's the music you're going to associate with it.

So I would use the oldies music, and pick some songs in particular that you remember being played at the wedding and that you especially like. If you liked them then, and you like them now, you'll like them when your grandkids are watching the video.

I'm very traditional...and I might only play the music that was used at the wedding. This is a very good question...and boy, do I wish I had a video of our wedding...but we got married before videos were common.

I'm also a HUGE believer in doing whatever makes you the happiest. It's your wedding memories and that day is very personal to the two of you.

So, my bottom line advice is....you two discuss it and do whatever it is that makes you happiest. If that means including more recent music...then go for it!

Now that I think of it, I might include more modern music afterall, if I had the chance....for example, I just might include these with my own pictures.

It sounds like it will be wonderful to have and I hope you both really enjoy it, Red.
