• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

When Jesus mentioned grieving the Holy Spirit, he was talking to the scribes, who attributed his good works to the power of evil. Blaspheming the Holy Spirit is attributing the work of the Holy Spirit to the work of the devil.

I completely agree. And it would take a great deal of intentional will to carry that out. You cannot grieve the Holy Spirit by accident.

Here's an excerpt out of the book Freedom From Fear by Neil T Anderson and Rich Miller that really makes sense to me.

"Despite all the biblical assurances to the contrary, many believers struggle with the fear that they have committed an unforgivable sin. This is a critical matter to resolve since one of the pieces of the armor of God is the helmet of salvation (see Ephesians 6:17). Those who are tormented by this fear usually suffer in silence. They think they have committed the unpardonable sin by blaspheming the Holy Spirit. Usually this fear is born out of ignorance or it is an attack of the enemy."

It is the unique work of the Holy Spirit to draw people to Christ. Those who come to Christ are the children of God, and their sins and blasphemies are forgiven because they are in Christ. That is why no Christian can commit the unpardonable sin. If you reject the witness of God's Spirit, then you never come to Christ in the first place. Standing in front of the scribes and Pharisees was the Messiah-Jesus, the Son of God-and they attributed His ministry of delivering people from demonic bondage to the devil. They even accused Jesus of being possessed by Satan! They totally rejected the witness of the Spirit.

We have talked with many believers who question their salvation and are under heavy conviction. The very fact that they are feeling convicted for their sins is the best evidence that they are Christians or the Holy Spirit is convicting them of their sinful nature and leading them to salvation. This is further evidence that they have not committed the unpardonable sin. If the Holy Spirit was not at work in them, their sins wouldn't even be bothering them.

The devil is an accuser. He is like a prosecuting attorney deceptively seeking to discredit and discourage a witness on the stand. He points his slimy finger and says, "Aha! You've done it now! There's no hope for you. You've blasphemed the Holy Spirit!" Perhaps you have questioned some spiritual gift, anointed preacher, or apparent supernatural manifestation. Is that blaspheming the Holy Spirit? Of course not. In fact, it could be necessary discernment. Listen to John's instruction: "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world" (1 John 4:1) A Christian can grieve the Holy Spirit and even quench the Holy Spirit, but that is not unpardonable (see Ephesians 4:30; and 1 Thessalonians 5:19).

As stated in previous posts, I agree that the unforgivable sin is the rejection of Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, and that if you are concerned that you have committed some sin beyond the working of salvation by the cross than you have nothing to fear, for your conviction shows that you have not crossed some line into some irreversible reproach of our Lord.

Often the Devil would desire to trick the believer in Christ to think that he is beyond the workings of salvation, to render them useless, so put on the full armor of God and fear no more, Sharky.

(Matthew 16:16) He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

(Romans 10:13) For, "every one who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved."

(Ephesians 6:10-18) 10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13Therefore take the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15and having shod your feet with the equipment of the gospel of peace; 16besides all these, taking the shield of faith, with which you can quench all the flaming darts of the evil one. 17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,

Peace

the psalmist said that the mercy of god is FROM EVERLASTING, TO EVERLASTING....
that means, it had no beggining and it will have no end.
it has always been, and will always be.
the psalmist also said that god is slow to anger, and plenteous and in mercy...
gods mercy is everlasting.
and new each morning.
there is absolutely no single sin that god will not forgive man for.
becuase there is absolutely no thing that can seperate us from his love. he loves you to much.

the unforgivable sin, is called blasphemey of the holyspirit.
like calling the works of god the works of the devil.
though that single act is not the unforgivable sin.
what the unforgivable sin is, is you coming to a place in your life when absolutely refuse the holyspirit the ability to love you, it is a constant rejection of him, untill he does not return.
even then, it is not that god wont forgive you, but that you will not be forgiven, because you refuse the god the chance.

this is what the people did when the attributed the work of the holyspirit to the devil.
they had grown to hate the truth so much, and rejected it so extremely, that they looked at the work of god and when they didnt have anything to say agaisnt it, they simply called it the devils work!
it was the condition of these peoples hearts that caused them to come into a place of absolutely refusing the truth and god, it was not any single thing they did.
gods blood and mercy is greater than any sin!
THERE IS SO SIN OR ANY SINGLE ACT YOU COULD EVER DO THAT GOD IS NOT WILLING TO FORGIVE!
though when certain acts are done by a person who hates the truth so much that they absolute shun god,(giving him no chance to forgive) then no these sins will never be forgiven.

the unforgivable sin is rooted deep in your heart, it is something done out of absolute hatred of the truth. and it is done with knowlegdge of the truth.
the people who attributed the work of god, to the devil
hated god and the truth so much, that when they had no real reason to not beleive they resorted to simply claiming what they knew was god, the devil.
it was an attempt to justify what they knew was not true.
these people were utterly rejecting god and any part of the truth.

it is not something you could accidently do, no slip of the tongue will ever **** you to hell, god is a father...hes not going to **** you becuase you slurred some words together on accident.
hes extremely slow to anger... and his mercy lasts forever.
god is not mad at you, you have not commited the unforgivable sin.
but that is no single sin anyway, it is a heart of hatred toward the truth, that causes you to commit sins that you will not allow the holyspirit to forgive you for.

well, thats what i beleive anyway.

you feel guilt, becuase you are decieved.
