Depends on if you inhale.

Inhaling is stupid, especially if it's a cigar or pipe.

(and yes, I'm aware even not inhaling there's health risks)

If you're not going to inhale, what's the point? When I say "smoking," inhalation is implied, in my mind.

After considering it for a few minutes, I wish I could change the option I voted for in the poll.

As a smoker, I have to say that I am both sinning and hurting my body. That gives me more incentive to quit. Of course, it'd be a lot easier if nicotine gum wasn't $50 a box...

You don't need to inhale for them to work, and there's no taste buds in your lungs.

Maybe it's becasue I started on cigars and only smoke them, pipes, and unfiltered cigarettes, but inhaling isn't implied to me, and I find the idea a bit crazy.

As a smoker, I have to say that I am both sinning and hurting my body.

Why do you think you're sinning, or is it becsue you're hurting your body?

Let's see. It destroys your lungs, and can give you cancer of the mouth, tongue, throat, and lungs. It causes heart disease, asthma, and emphysema (sp?). It weakens your immune system. It turns your teeth all sort of lovely shades of brown and gray. It can cause infections in babies and children. It stunts growth. It causes addiction. In short, it's knowingly and purposefully destroying the body God gave you, and sickening those around you who breathe your 2nd hand poison.

Hmm. Could it POSSIBLY be a sin?

Wow. I put that it's a stupid idea because I think it's yucky.

As for it being a sin: some people do smoke without addiction ( I will sometimes smoke a cigarette if someone wants me to taste a certain flavor. They have some that taste like mint chocolate chip ice cream.) and for those people I do not see it as a sin.

If you want to smoke, smoke...This is an issue of choice and you have the freedom to do it. Is it a sin only when you think that you have to hide from others. Would I judge your spiritual life on that single issue. No I wouldn't.

The issue of smoking is cultural issue. I enjoy having wine with my dinner. I have friend that come over for visit that is against having wine. But I never hide the fact that I enjoy a glass of wine. I do not drink in front of him but don't hide the wine either.

Tell how many French Christians have wine. How many smoke.

The next thing I say I prefer not to smoke. That's just me...

I believe I'm sinning when I smoke because I am hurting my body, exposing others to second-hand smoke, and supporting a market that kills people.

It's frivolous use of money and almost always addicting, and I believe that developing an addiction is a sin.

i wouldn't go as far as to say it is a sin, and that's not because i struggle with the addiction myself but at least i brought my patches home from work to get started again.

reasons are, for you to say it is a sin there would have to be a standard to judge that upon. so if you view smoking as a sin, what about fast food? pop? candy bars? how can you differentiate smoking as sin and maybe something else as not? there has to be something to differentiate it with besides obtaining a higher risk for cancer.

but let's go with the moment that i'm right about it not being a sin (please know i'm not saying i'm right by saying that) what would that mean? the same as if it were sin. smoking destroys your body and opens your body up to a very strong addiction. someone i once knew, he told me that it was easier to quit crank, then it was to quit cigarettes.

so while i think it isn't "sin" the issue of it being sin is irrelevant. it is stupid, dangerous and so hard to quit. i honestly never wish i started.

To me it is a sin because you are destroying the temple that God gave you, but i can see people seeing it differently too. Either way, it's not a good idea, and isn't helpful to those around who have to breath the second-hand smoke

I voted "Just a stupid idea."
Voted the same.

The way I see it.. i love being active outside in the fresh air.. In order to survive doing the activities I love doing, you have to have pretty good breathing capabilities. :D I dont want to do anything to my lungs that makes them not work as well..

Plus I have SOOO many more things that I could put my money into that would be a million times better. ^_^

..Same reasoning I don't do anything drug related.

I don't view addiction as a sin. Addiction is a disease. The addict can no more help that they are an addict than any other sick person. To me smoking is not a sin, it is symptomatic of other deeper problems. Also, I smoke and I don't smoke around non-smokers so I won't hurt them.

For something to be a sin, according to typical definition, it must be a violation of one of God's stated laws. If there is a clear passage in the Bible that smoking would fall under as a sin, then its a sin. If there isnt a passage in the Bible that smoking could fall under as sin, then it isnt sin. Thats how i view the black and white of it.

But really, there is no health benefit that i have heard of that smoking actually brings, only bad things. Its obviously not something that God put on someone's mind to create. And i was watching a tv documentary on the tobacco business, and they said those kind of products are like the top most addicting, even above many illegal drugs.

And really, yea nicotine sooths pleasure receptors to make a person feel better, but that can be replaced by many other things or activities that are actually beneficial, or in the least, neutral to ones health.

For anyone who smokes, the tv documentary also mentioned that there is a medication out there that u can take that not only acts like the nicotine does to make u a bit happier, but it also dulls the nicotine's effect, so if u happen to slip and smoke, it makes it not as good as it was before. Something to look into maybe. Cant remember the name.

I think anything you use with the knowledge that it will destroy your body is a bad thing. With that in mind, it's possible to smoke in moderation, just like you can eat a hamburger once a week instead of three times a day. As long as it's not really harmful to your body, I think it's ok. But the instant you become addicted to something, whether it be food, smoking or anything other than God, it becomes a sin because you're making that thing bigger in your life than God is.
