I had a professor who was convinced my name was Amy, when my name is completely different and there wasn't an Amy in the rather small class.

The thing is, my friends went along with it, and referred to me as Amy whenever when we were in front of him, and after a couple days it would have been WAY too awkward to correct him. I still wonder what he thought when it came time to grade class participation and he saw there was no Amy on the roster.

One coworker used to call me Shirley for the first couple weeks I worked with her. I didn't correct her and eventually she called me the right name. I was a teller and wore a name tag even.

Was there a shirley working there?

yes, of course. I think everyone has been called by the wrong name at work, but the funny part about mine is several people have called me Melissa which is my sisters name. My name is Michelle and they had no way of knowing my sisters name, so that was kind of strange and it has happened more than once. I guess Melissa and Michelle sound alike. I never thought so but....:pink: it doesn't matter. My sister is an awsome person.

For some reason my name, Alyssa, is hard for some people (usually men) to remember and pronounce. My current boss called me Elizabeth a lot and I would tell him, "my name is Alyssa." He would respond with, "Well, I'm just going to call you Alyssa." Granted, he's Iranian and has a pretty thick accent, but he still doesn't write my last name on my tip checks and I've been there for a year!

I've been called the wrong name a lot at work, but usually by new employees. I've been called Emily and Brandi a lot even though my name is Sara. A guy at work calls me Sariai (I don't even know how you would spell it, but that's what it sounds like).

A good friend of mine worked with me for about 3 years and her name is Becca. For some strange reason one day I accidentally called her Becky, and she gave me the most evil look. It terrified me so much I've made sure to never call her that again...

Yes, my boss at my other job called me Heather several times. It was very funny because he saw my nametag constantly (i sat in the cube accross from him) and he even borrowed my old one, and he STILL called me by the wrong name. however, I got him back...they had a "throw a pie at your managers day" and i threw 3 of them :D

yeah, but that's kind of normal in a job where you don't wear a nametag.

one guy who worked here for a few months before getting fired (i mention that because his memory was basically the reason he was incompetent on the job) called me Emily every single time I saw him, even after correcting him every single time. something was really odd about him though...

I'm sure I have been but I can't think when or by whom

however

my DAD, my own father, insists on calling me anything but my name, he has even been known to call me mby my BROTHER's name. Now I have changed my name so I can understand that he would want to use my old name but even at that, how do you get from Gillian to David????
