Do you mean people just following other Christians instead of Jesus? I'm sure the leader would tell them that Jesus is the one to be followed, not themselves.(If they are true Christians and are aware of the situation.) Or do you mean having a mentor in your faith? I'm kinda dumb, so could you please elaborate a little more?

All in favour!!! I had a mentor for the first half of this year (while I was in brisbane for uni) and God used her to really change my life!! Everyone should have a mentor... its important to have someone in your life to keep you accountable and encourage you and pray with you through this life which is tough!!! Mentors are SUCH a blessing!!!!

Errr... I'm a bit ambivalent on this one.

It's something, I guess, that needs to open to accountability outside the discipleship/mentorship, too. Without that accountability to the wider church family, SOME of these relationships can turn controlling, cultish or abusive.

I'm not saying avoid them, by any means. Just be a little wary, and make sure that it's really of God.

I think it's a good thing. I have a mentor and he is helping me grow. I have been saved by Christ and because of that there is no shame of who I am, or need to hide anything.

It can become an issue if the two believe differently on issues, and as long as the relationship isn't controlling, but just accountability, it should be helpful!

And yes it's biblical.

Yeh I totally agree with and recommend discipleship relationships between christians. not just for young people but throughout your whole life. I believe it's a biblical concept and having that open spiritual relationship with someone who is a few steps ahead of you in their christian walk is amazingly inspirational and keeps you moving towards God.

If you havn't got a mentor I would really recomend looking and praying for one, it's not someone to detract from Jesus but someone to point you towards him and encourage you in your walk.
