I don't have enough space to list 'em. To summarize, many Unix machines, a few gaming consoles, and a couple of Macs and even a token Windows box provided by work in case I have to read a Word document.

I can never count, but roughly on the order of 15 systems that are normally up and moving packets.

Wish I could have that many to fiddle with. ;)

What's annoying is that I can never find a scratch machine. I always end up, somehow, needing the machines I already have running to stay doing whatever they're doing... So I have a dedicated MP3 server, and a dedicated this, and a dedicated that... It's sorta frustrating.

The great central discovery, for me, was that the only application for which you ever care how fast a computer is, these days, is probably video games. Nothing else I do is particularly affected; okay, it took me something like a week to rotate ~500 albums into my MP3 player. That's still not a big speed hit, and it's a one-time task. Everything else? I leave my laptop permanently set to low-power mode, because it's Fast Enough, and it's a bit over a year old now. Rendering might be another application where performance matters - but if, like me, you're a recreational user, once again, *it's fast enough*.

Instead, I spend money on quality. ECC memory, motherboards that support error correction, stuff like that. Fewer crashes is worth a lot more to me than an extra second here and there.

Exactley seebs, neither of my 2 PC's really need any speed for what they do (the Celery Desktop tho could use 256Megs of RAM.

Truth is, for me, the "cheapo" Laptop's are good enough performance wise, and actually, my Dad bought our first lappy last week, and he's gonna be using it the most prolly, but it made me realize that if it's God's will, I will be trading in my system for a laptop. The Lappy Dad picked up is a Dell Inspirion 2600 for $1500. Here's the specs:

Celeron 1.2GHz-M (Tualatin, performs like a P3 for those who don't know about the Tualaltin Celerons)
256MB PC133
20GB 4200RPM HD
On-Board 830M Video
DVD-ROM
14" LCD
Win XP Home, Office XP Small Business
and, really great battery life (supposedly, according to a PC Mag review, it got 3hr35mins of battery life on a single battery)

That lappy I will eventually trade my PC for (or a similar one). Its a tad bluky, but I personally don't mind it.

Im flogging my spair pcs (Atlon 1ghz and Duron 800) cos I have no use for em anymore

hey cheriton, ya mind donating some parts, please?

I'm lookin' for some parts for a pc and donations would be nice

The computer I have to my name right now is a

486 laptop @ 75 mhz,
windows 98,
6 gb harddrive,
no soundcard,
1 mb video ram
24 mb ram.

It's almost too slow to get on CF

I use my dad's computer, mostly:
800 mhz p3
256 mb ram
15 gb harddrive
cd-rom/cd-rw
SB pci128
Nvidia gf2 MX400(pny verto)

Since i've got so much going on right now for me to worry about, like driving school costs, and this newer car i'm looking at, newer pc parts aren't at the top of my priority list.
