• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi dantrong,
I wonder what your'e background is and whether you struggle with OCD regarding youre faith. Are u on medication?
I would encourage you to go because you will hear the word of God and be encouraged. If you are struggling with issues about your'e faith, some of those doubts and fears will be removed as you hear the word. My doctor has told me that medicine alone is not sufficient to cure OCD/ depression, but our thought process must also change. If we think we can never be forgiven, we need to fill our mind with what the bible says that if we confess our sins He is faithful to forgive us. So going for such conferences where you would experince God and His love will help you to feel loved and accepted before God - which is also part of the healing.
I do belive that God can heal you totally, He has done it for some people. I too experienced the love of God at some meetings at church which helped me to feel much better, though I still struggle with a sleep disorder. So overall go with an open heart and God will touch you!!:)
God bless
Micheal

Hi dantrong, I agree somewhat with what Micheal said, but please be careful when you go to healing meetings, Some of them are not good I will give you an example, my aunt had breast cancer and my cousin (Her son) thought that if he could just get her to a high powered televangilist that she would be healed, He called this person and one of his staff members told him that for 450.00 dollars they could get her a front row seat and maybe he would be able to get to her. That's really awful isn't it. I tell you this because Our great God can heal you right where you are, He knows your pain and your sorrows, He is also no respector of persons He cares for you right where you are. I have had OCD for over 20 years, I went to prayer meetings, met with couselors ran to pastors, had many people pray for me and I am grateful for all of those prayers, but believe it or not God can use OCD for our good and his glory. Romans 8:28, I hate this terrible disorder, I am truly grateful that the Lord is now sending me the help I need. Ask Him for his help, be specific He is faithful and will tell you what to do, Just trust him. If He wants you to go to the Doctor He will make a way ( I am finally understanding that sometimes he uses medical people and ways to help us.) It is all from Him, he owns the cattle on a thousand hills and the wealth in every mine. If the word is being preached at this healing meeting go and hear it I agree. Luke 1:37 says nothing is impossible with God. But if you do come out of there not healed of this please don't be dicouraged God has not forgotten you. He will get you through. I hope that this advice will help you, I prayed before I gave it to you. Have a wonderful and blessed day. Jan

Please be sure to not stop taking any prescribed medication you are on until you and your doctor have talked about it and your doctor agrees that you can stop taking it.

I have seen people go to meetings like this and feel really encouraged and uplifted (which is good!), but they also just decide not to take medicine without talking to their doctor and I have seen bad results from that. Some medication needs to be taken off slowly, but also, sometimes someone feels a kind of group rush from the meeting and then a few days later, they get back to "normal" and still don't take their meds and end up worse.

That said, I would encourage you to go to the meetings. I firmly believe that faith and prayers and worship is very very good and helpful.

HI Dantrong,
Ditto to the great advice given above, but especially to what Jan had to say about God being "able" to heal us at any time - anywhere. I know that God chooses to heal some folk of certain disorders and diseases and this is to glorify Himself. I know also that He sometimes chooses not to heal folk in order that they can learn that "His grace is sufficient and that His power is made perfect in our weaknesses and this too, is for His glory. I believe in purposeful affliction in the lives of all Christians whether they are healed or whether they are not. God is sufficient for both situations. Yes, we need to ask Him for healing but we must also get to the place where we can confidently say, just as He taught us to, "never the less, Father - Thy will be done".
Praying for you that whether you go or not that all will be done for His glory.
