• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Norm, I'm sorry to hear about the health scare with your ex. :( I'll keep her in my prayers.

I'm checking in to let everybody know that I still haven't had a drink since Jan.15. That e-aa.org site has been a lifesaver for me! It's also the reason I'm not here much lately. I get on there first, last, and in between. :) My husband has been putting me through the ringer since I stopped drinking, and my marriage is in the pooper. But, I still don't need a drink today! :D And, whenever I need an understanding ear, I go chat with my new AA friends.

The other part of the AA fellowship, that I truly love, is the people who have told me that something I said, or an experience I shared, helped THEM to stay sober. It just feels good to know that I might be helping others while finding help and support myself.

Congratualtions on your not drinking!! This is good news.

Am sorry about your marriage but am encouraged that you are still holding to your sobriety. Am glad your finding a way that works for you concerning AA. if it works for you, then it works!

Hi Kanga, I'm really happy for you. You sound great. They use to tell me that you could tell when someone was getting it, because they looked like they were in love. Of course, I can't see you but I hear you loud and clear. Three cheers for success!!!

what Jim said! :) Hey mustang - hows things?

Hey Norm, I got computer glitches. You know anything? Anyway, I'm almost as good as usual. I sure hope the family stuff is working out for you. Mostly working my butt off. I'm down about five weeks on this job due to weather and now, we got a break in the weather, so trying to make up time. We hoped to be thru in early april. Looking like maybe late May or early June. Oooh well. Good to hear from you. Been missing all you folks.

Its good to "see" you again as well! I take notice when someone hasnt been around for a while. I just hope that they be ok and working their sobriety.

My ex called yesterday - she had a mini relapse. turns out among some of the problems she came down with in her health scare - she was diagnosed as infected with E. Coli! of all the things! no wonder she was bad sick.

she is off for another two weeks recuperting.

she said to thank everyone that prayed for her.

As for me, some days I be cool and other days I find myself trying to find enough room at the end of the rope to tie another knot in it to hang on.

other days, I need to tie an extension to the end of that rope! :sigh:

but regardless,

Hi. My name is Norm and I am a alcoholic.

Hello :) Checking in to say all is well here. My one month sobriety anniversary is Thursday Feb. 15. Wednesday is, of course, Valentines Day and also happens to be dh and my 21 year anniversary being together. Since things are not good between us, I'm bracing for a rough couple of days. I hear that anniversary dates can be troubling for some reason too. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers this week. Thanks. :D

I've been sober for five weeks myself. Hrm, not much to brag about, eh. But read the other post I made at this Abuse-forum about my visit. I'm being transformed into an entirely new person. And i can feel it. Times are indeed interesting and exciting.

Wo, hey! Funny, the lady above in this thread should mention Psalm 118. That is my absolute favourite, and I found it just a feew weeks ago. Great stuff.

Cheers.

Hey Kanga, congratulations on your soberity. As this is my birthday, no fighting is allowed. Please tell your hubby, too. Just kidding, of course. I hope things go better than expected. Anyway, it's not worth drinking over. Happy Valentines.

Hey antiscamp - welcome to the recovery threads!

Congratulations on 5 weeks sobriety! This is a good thread with good folks that post in here their daily thoughts, struggles, hopes, etc - kinda sorta like folks at an AA meeting.

Hey, 32 days and still sober! :) Thanks for all positive thoughts and prayers that were sent my way. I suspected it might be a rough week and I did come close to a slip. Of course, maybe I just fulfilled my own prophecy. I've really got to work on avoiding negative thinking. :(

Thursday was an especially rough day at work, then I stood outside in frigid temps, for an hour, so my kids could sled. My brain was frozen and all it could do was think of any place that might sell alcohol in the short drive between sledding and home. I really wanted a drink, for the first time in weeks. Also, I had Friday off (for the purpose of going to an AA meeting) and I had thoughts of drinking all day long w/ no one to worry about as the kids would be in school. :(

I'm happy to report that I drove straight home without stopping. I thought about H.A.L.T.; the triggers for drinking. Was I too hungry? Yes! Was I exhausted (tired) ? Yes! So the kids and I ate dinner, drank hot cocoa, changed into our pajamas, and plopped in front of the boob tube under many blankets to get warm. Magically the strong desire to drink left me. For extra insurance I made sure to go the the noon AA meeting that I had been planning to go to all week.

Actually, today is Saturday and I am still having fleeting thoughts of wanting a drink. I guess my brain got kicked back into "I'm a drunk, might as well drink" mode or something. I tried to find a sponsor today. The two ladies I've been wanting to ask were not available. I knew I should have set that up BEFORE I needed it. Live and learn.

I'm so happy to hear that you are taking care of yourself so well Kanga! That is a huge step, and to realize other things you did need to take care of to help squash the desire to drink, even if only temporarily, was such a wonderful to do for yourself.

I hope everyone else is finding the support they need to continue taking care of themselves as well.
