I think the problems with these articles is that they're describing insecure, fearful and clingy guys as 'nice' guys.

Which is extremly insulting to the actual nice guys out there and why so many people are getting irritated.
 Agreed. It is insulting to hear that nice guys (men of good character) are confused with wimpy types. Personally, I strive to be nice. It takes a lot of strength at times, but it's worth the effort IMHO.

If the articles just said, why 'insecure' guys finish last then I think we'd all be agreeing. The same as if they posted articles saying why 'insecure' and clingy girls finish last.
I'm not sure if I agree with you. It was the insecure clingy girls who were always in relationships, got pregnant as teenagers etc... and when they did, it was usually by the 'bad boys'.

Bad boys aren't exactly models of security themselves. Ever notice how the 'bad boy' types all seem to have abusive childhoods? Ever notice how they're also afraid of commitment? In contrast, nice guys tend to have stable childhoods, and they don't usually fear commitment. Tell me... who is more insecure?

Yeah good point. I would still describe them as finishing last though (getting pregnant as teenagers, and finally just ending up alone after 2 or 3 kids by different partners, burnt out and bitter). But yeah, I know what you're saying. Although to be honest I meant insecure girls who were really shy and unable to really cope well in life. (same as what I meant by insecure guys).
They finish last either way anyway

I suppose... though it's tough to define what "finishing last" really means.

Anyway, if somebody truly can't cope, then maybe they should get professional help. If we're blessed with a full life, the race can be long. There shouldn't be shame in helping others (or being helped by others) get back on their feet.
