Do you have scripture to show me that prophesy can come from one that is not a prophet?

Re-read what I posted. Just because someone can prophesy, does not make them a prophet. The ability to forthtell does not certify you as a prophet.

There are several prophets written about that did not perform healings.

Correct, there are prophets who were not documented as moving in the same gifts as Elijah or Elisha did, but there are prophets that GOD documented for us who clearly did, so those gifts are part of that office according to scripture. Just because GOD did not document every single prophets particular actions for us, does not mean that you will have prophets not operating in those gifts, calling themselves prophets. It's not going to happen. Those types of people are just doing wishful thinking before GOD.

Anyone not operating in those gifts is not a prophet, period, no matter how much they think they are in front of people, or that people think they are. GOD did not change this office to something else in the NT.

A prophet is capable of some truly powerful things from GOD, much more powerful than people like Benny Hinn and others who are only operating in the gifts of healing. Benny's office is not a prophet, as his forthtellings have been documented as failing at times, and he does no working of creative miracles. His office is more of Apostle/Teacher.

The only recently documented prophet that I have found is Smith Wigglesworth, as GOD was performing creative miracles through him. Maria Woodworth Etter is a prophetess as her ministry had creative miracles within it also.

The ability of GOD to heal a person through you is not a creative miracle, that is operating in one of the gifts of The Holy Spirit. Speaking words that grow a new leg or arm in place is. Saying a prayer to GOD and changing the weather or averting a hurricanes destructive path is a creative miracle.

People can disagree with me on this, but the OT is the only true source of information on this particular office.

I agree with Dave01.

I just got done reading Goll's "SEER"
C. Jacob's "Voice of God"

and they both say that there are major and minor prophets. All will be able to prophecy as a verb...but a few are called to be the office of a prophet.

If you can hear God, you should know if you are a prophet or not. He will tell you and guide you through many steps.
There is the issue of character and integrity.
Really tough training in areas of money, honesty, obedience, priorities, etc.
If there are issues of past "doors" open, then even the most pomising prophet will fall. He purges the life of a prophet to have them stand upright and able to tolerate persecution.

I highly recommend reading books on prophets.

I suggest that you get into the habit of praying for wisdom whenever you see something in the Spirit.

I have had seasons where God will show me things. For example , whenever people went up to the altar for prayer. I could see gifts and callings and secret sins and emotional wounds. I would look at a person and my spirit would just know. Then some of these secrets would be revealed publically later and it was confirmed to me even though I didn't say anything to anyone about it.

There was this one time where God showed me that this woman at the altar was in adultery and was planning to leave her husband. I didn't even know her. Two weeks later it happened.

I kept asking God why He was showing me these things. Some of them were upseting to me. I would see church leaders with secret inappropriate content problems and stuff like that. At first I thought it must be so I can pray. Or so that I can rebuke them. But then God began to show me that He wanted me to just observe and learn. This was training for me.

One lesson in particular I learned. There are times when I discern spirits or things in the spirtual realm. But I must take time to pray through to know what god is really saying. There was one time where I discerned something about this guy at church. Turned out later that he was being tempted in that are and what I discerned was the spiritual battle and not that he was actually committing that sin. There was a spirit attacking him in that area. it is possible to make assumptions and jump to conclusions because I discerned a glimpse of something in the spiritual.

What I have learned from that is to hold back unless God is prompting me to speak. I then go on a fast to seek the whole of what God is saying about that before saying too much.

This gift is like the famous quote from literature ( it was the best of timres , it was the worst of times ) Except it is the bets of gifts, it is the worst of gifts. There are days when I wish I didn't have this gift. It is a responsibility , a burden and sometimes just emotionally draining. There are times when I share a word and get attacked for it and other times when someone is my friend for life after. There are times when I rush in too quickly before praying through and get beat up emotioanlly by the end of it and learn a lesson the hard way.

There are many times when I have argued with God that there are others better qualified to carry this responsibility. I have all kinds of my own emotional issues that I bring into things.

One thing that goes together with this gift is brokeness. Sorry to tell you but you have some breaking to do. Not because you are being punished but it just goes with the gift. Forced humilty. I usually get at least a few times a month where I get devastated by God. Feels like I get beat up.

One other piece of advice here. Don't underestimate the impact of what you say. People can put on a pretty good poker face and really on the inside they are feeling it. Resist the tendency to go stronger and deeper when you get that. Sometimes it take several messages from God before someone lets their walls down. Don't use your gift to beat their walls down. You know the scriptures that talk about the discipline of God ? I have made this mistake several times and been disciplined by God afterwards . Not a pleasant experience. It is not fun to have God angry at you. And using your gift to be rough and force the issue with His children who are emotionally wounded makes Him angry.

I will pray for you. I strongly reccommend setting aside a season of prayer and fasting.

Thanks Yitchak...

I'm totally speechless after that reply...

Just one question... I don't fully understand the "forced humility" issue... can you expound on that?

When I say forced humility , I don't mean that I don't want to be humble. I just mean that God took it so much further than I ever expected. God is determined to take me at my word and bring me to the place of brokeness and humility.

For me, one of the biggest struggles in this has been self vindication. Wanting to justify myself or prove i'm right. It is hard not to take some things personally espeacially when people question my motives. Just letting it go is so difficult sometimes. Especailly when God will often show me why this person is attacking me for the word I brought. What is their emotional wound that makes them act that way. But yet in my spirit I know God wants me to just let it go. Seeing into someone's heart gives me the ability to devastate them and "put them in their place" sometimes.

But I also mean trials. The rejection is difficult to handle. One time God gave me a word that the reason so many people have rejected me is training for my ministry. He doesn't want me to be subject to people's manipulation. But he wants me to have a soft heart that cries tears over people who do that.

Giving up my desire to fix things and control is another one of the hard ones.

I guess I would sum it up this way.

God wants us who operate in the prophetic to have His word for people. But He also wants us to have his heart for them. That is where the breaking comes in. The prophet Hosea had a wife that he loved who cheated on him. He got to feel how God feels when His people cheat on Him.

Your calling may not be exactly like mine in every way. But God will want you to have a broken heart before you are done.

It comes in stages and not all at once. But after a while you recognise the process and you accept it like I accepted that foul tasting medicine my mother used to give me when I was young. I only take it because I have to not because I like it.

I guess I'm speaking of the cost of your calling. God will reveal to you the hidden places of your own heart. you will live very personally many of the messages that you give to others.

Regarding living the messages... AMEN!

I've only been really getting "into" the calling God has laid before me, not for long... it just seems that as a period of time goes by... I embrace the understanding that all words, although they may be meant for others, are meant for those who give the words to take heed or to be able to relate.

All I pray is: Lord, let there be less of me and more of You!

May it be so as the Lord wills, for I am His servant, and His only.

A prophet is when you say something, and then the preacher is talking about what you said to the people....meaning everything has to match...it is not fun being a prophet, God is giving his warning to the people, I have heard many prophets, but there are not many who are really speaking for God. Its like God puts something in your head and you try to push it away, you do not want to say any thing, but God will not leave you alone, until finally you do what he said, then you get relief, this is the best way I know how to explain it. You are alway looking to see what you said if its the truth, for even one small mistake you looking at your own self, for if one mistake is taken, then you shut your mouth and speak no more, if there is no mistakes and each time everything that comes out of your mouth happen, then you are a prophet

RiseAgain... if you test the spirits to see if they are of God, it is one thing. Continually rejecting the message is stifling/grieving the Holy Ghost.

Always make sure the prophets are in alignment with the Word of God... that is how you determine if they are true or false prophets.

Having the gift of prophecy can be tough...

But isn't every calling of God tough in it's own way?

Don't despise your calling... pray that God will help you come to endure it and appreciate it...

You never know... you may just be the one that has a prophecy that leads someone to Christ.

Yes I see your point, I have alway looked at it as people getting mad at me, but most of the time, what came out of my mouth was something I did not want to say, you never knew who was going to get angry. you can see things you never knew were there...any way...thanks ...it is late here, I am going off the PC

Jim Goll's book, "The Seer," is great - a comprehensive study of scripture. Also, Dr. Bill Hamon's series of books on prophets, prophecies, etc is excellent, also, and is based on scripture and about 40 years of experience.

Jim Is a great guy!.. we've seen him many times here in Redding :) and in fact this book is a great book... :)

Notes from prophetic class

( Just as a quick note.. I DONT debate )

Prophetic Christians hear 4 different types of Voices...

1. Your own Spirit
2. The Holy Spirit
3. Angels
4. Demons

In The Old testament, Prophets had Revelation " Recieved " ... Meaning the only way they messed up or got it wrong was by haveing a bad heart.. They Heard From God directly unless they were evil.. IN which case they were stoned often.. In the old testament they werent " born agian " ...

In The New testament Prophets revelation is "Percieved" .. Meaning we hear God through the Holy Spirit that lives within us, interacting with our own spirit ...
See 1 Thess. 5:20 -21

[bible]20do not treat prophecies with contempt. 21Test everything. Hold on to the good. [/bible]

and 1 Corin. 14 ( we NOW judge the word given and not the Prophet himself. )

---
How to judge Prophecy..

Does in bring Conviction?
Does it bear witness with the Holy Spirit?
Is it Scriptural?
What do other trusted Prophets think?

---
The differences between things..

The Gift of prophecy is the gift of the Spirit.
For Edification, Exhortation and Comfort ...

[bible]1 Corinthians 14:3But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort. [/bible]

The Prophet as a person is CHRISTS gift, The person himself is the gift. The role is not to Prophesy mainly, its to equip the people, with a prophets reward, "to have eyes to see and ears to hear ".
They direct and correct because they are in the Government of God.. They are RARE..

---

Prophecy & Prophets
are two different callings...
1 Corin. 12 - Talks about the GIFT of prophecy, its a gift of the Holy Spirit... The Gift is the word given or spoken..
[bible] 1Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant.....10to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, [/bible]

Ephes. 4 - Talks about The Prophet Himself... The Person, is Christs gift.. The gift IS the person...

[bible]
7But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.
11It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up
[/bible]
---

4 Levels of prophesy

1. The Culture - " even a donkey can prophesy " :)

2. Gift of - for edification, exhortation and comfort.

3. A prophet who prophesys well.. NOt the office, but one who is trusted..

4. The office of the prophet, the person, the gift of Christ.. :)

---

When you see something negative in someones life, PROPHESY THE ANSWER.. You will speak grace into their lifes to effect a change...

... Theres tons more, but I am tired of typeing.. hopefully this helped... a reminder, its for the edification of those whom God helps to understand.. I dont debate it, or explain it.... :)

Blessings.... :)
