Unfortunately I don't have any CD's but do plan on getting some in the future.

Last night in choir practice we sang his De Profundis...ABSOLUTELY PROFOUND AND SPECTACULAR PIECE OF MUSIC, that he wrote when he was 19.

It's amazing, when you break down the parts and have each part sing only theirs (sopranos, altos, tenors, bass), the lines are quite boring and unspectacular, but when you put them together, WOW! Truly de profundis (out of the depths, psalm 129 (130) depending on what translation).

I'm going to try and find a recording for you to listen to.

I was going to bring this up as well!

Profound indeed! :amen:

There are some great pieces Mozart wrote for Craft Freemasonry. Do a google search and you'll find quite a bit of interesting information on those pieces he specifically wrote for the Lodge.
Thanks, but that doesn't sound like sacred music to me...but thanks for the suggestion!

I am a musician myself and a HUGE Mozart fan
He is my all time favourite!

I agree with the Requiem Mass being an absolute must. I had the occasion to sing it more than once and it is beautiful.

Other favourites of mine are the Mass in C minor and the Coronation Mass.

Blessings to you and enjoy the music.

If you want really good sacred music, I highly recommend oratorios. In the old days since opera was forbidden during lent, what composers would do is write oratorios, which are basically operas where there is no acting, no costumes, no nothing, just the singers and instrumentalists, and all oratorios are about Bible stories. Handel wrote a bunch, and his are in English so you can understand them ("The Messiah," with its famous Hallelujah Chorus, is an oratorio).

As for Mozart, my music analysis professor said that this one Mozart organization recently put ALL of the manuscripts that Mozart wrote online. I don't remember off the top of my head what the website is, but it's a pretty darn amazing thing!

On a side note, my favorite Mozart piece is the Prague Symphony (No. 38). It's an amazing piece, and the 2nd movement is to die for. I know it's not sacred, but if you're interested in Mozart you should seriously consider listening to it. And, if you know anything about music analysis and score study, I'd recommend doing that as well! :)

Thanks for all of the suggestions!

Here's which CD's I downloaded yesterday (I got 50 free songs):
  • Handel: Sacred Arias
  • Mozart: Piano Concertos
  • Mozart: Symphonies 40 and 41
  • Mozart: Requiem
Where did you download them from?
