Richard, my first teaching job was with children who were mentally and physically handicapped...and those with Downs and simalar mental illness's are the most loving, gentle and carefree souls I've ever known.
I believe it's because they don't and will never know such things as anger, jealousy, bitterness, revenge, hatred, mistrust, bigotry, prejudice etc etc

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all be so "Gifted"!

Angel...thanks my friend, I had the analogy about the comforter when I had my flu a few weeks ago and was sick and cold and I wasn't warm or feeling better until I curled up in my comforter on the couch...something told me to share it today...and I'm glad that you and Deb both liked it.

Greg and Rachel...Hugs my friends..I'm glad this thread is giving comfort....that makes me happy and blesses me as well.

Hugs to all

The first step in moving forward into a fresh
future is forgetting the disappointments of
yesterday. No matter what people have done to
you, or how unfair life has been, God is able
to bring you out stronger than before. God
wants the rest of your life to be more blessed
than the first part—greater, in fact, than
anything you could ever imagine. Unfortunately,
too many people quit believing for more when
they face tough times. They quit expecting
anything good to happen. The truth is, our
hardships and trials are really opportunities
for us to go higher.
Whatever struggles you're going through right
now, no matter how large or small . . . they
are subject to change. Nothing may look right
in your life today, but it's all subject
to change. God is working behind the scenes on

your behalf!

A Prayer for Today
God, we feel at peace with our situation

knowing You are behind the scenes, preparing a
fantastic future for us. We are going to let go
of the past and believe for more blessing and
abundance in the days to come. In Jesus' Name –
Amen.

Here's another thought.. These handicap people are closer to God than we'll ever be. For Jesus said: (Mat 18:3 NIV) And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
(Mat 18:4 NIV) Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
(Mat 18:5 NIV) "And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.

These people are like little children and will Always be closer to God than us. They have a Loving heart that we can't begin to imagine. I give them two thumbs up, five stars and Bless them..
Praise the Lord that is sooooo true!!! Thank you for pointing that out MR Richard

Reading some of the posts here today make me realise how complicated we really make things. Wasn't life meant to be simple?

There was a story that I heard of a father that put his 1 1/2 year old and 4 year old boy to bed one night. He was sitting downstairs watching tv when he heard little feet pitter pattering accross the floor and the door to the 1 1/2 year olds room open. On the baby monitor he had on the table beside him, he heard his 4 year old ask his 1 1/2 year old "Can you tell me about God...I'm forgetting..."
Oh to have the faith of a child. It breaks my heart how hardened our hearts have become...how insensative we've become to God. :sigh:

That's a nice story. And so true that our hearts are hardened and insensitive. It is scary how even when we are trying our best it doesn't take much to make us feel angry and hurt. I pray that God will help all of us keep our gaze on Him and immediately ask for His strength when things go bad.

A Baby Shows the Way of Love

*** WARNING TISSUES NEEDED ***

"For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life" (John 3:16, TEV).

Pastor Robinson walked back and forth in his study, and then stood for a moment by the window. A light snowfall had whitened the world outside, but the pastor hardly noticed. His thoughts were with his people. He had been their pastor for three years. He had preached and prayed and had done all he could. He knew there were definite needs among his people, but for some reason he hadn't been able to reach their hearts.

The thought came to him there by the window, "If only they could understand how much God loves them. God's love--that's it! I'll preach on John 3:16." All week he worked on his sermon. He prayed, "Please God, make a breakthrough."

Later as the pastor stood in the foyer and greeted his parishioners, he smiled and spoke to each one, but his heart was still heavy. He was preoccupied with his sermon. "If only I had an illustration of love that everyone could understand," he mused. Just then the pastor noticed the Smith family, a young couple with two children. He watched as they came in. Maybe somehow here was the illustration he needed. Baby Kathy was just six months old and looked like a doll with her beautiful smiling face. The pastor walked over to the mother and asked her if he could use Kathy as a sermon illustration that morning? The young mother nodded in agreement, then joined her family for the worship service.

After the special music Pastor Robinson stood up to speak. "I wonder how many of us have the joy of knowing we are loved? I have something to show you if you will just wait a moment." He left the platform and returned a moment later with the happy baby. He asked, "Do you think little Kathy knows she is loved? How could anyone not love such a happy little girl?" Down in the congregation the eyes of a five-year-old brother lit up when he saw his baby sister with the pastor. Love was in his eyes, but nobody noticed. All eyes were on the baby.

The pastor said, "How would you like to take this precious bundle of joy home with you today?" "No," came an immediate cry from the audience. All attention suddenly shifted from the minister to a small boy running down the aisle. He climbed the steps to the platform as quickly as he could, and put himself right in front of the minister. The eyes of the little boy were filled with fear. "No," he repeated, "if you have to give someone away, take me. She needs mommy and daddy. Please," he pleaded, as tears filled his eyes and his little chin trembled, "she's my little sister and I love her." He reached up and touched her pudgy legs, then buried his face against her and sobbed.

In the congregation the young mother and father could not believe their eyes. She leaned her head against his and began to cry softly. Here and there people were wiping their eyes as tears trickled down their faces. The pastor was speechless. He hadn't meant to frighten the boy. Tears were now running down the pastor's cheeks as well. An usher offered to take the baby back to her parents.

The pastor finally got control of himself and stepped to the pulpit. In trembling voice he said, "Oh, if only you knew how much God loves you." Slowly an elderly man, for whom the church had prayed for years, made his way to the altar with tears in his eyes. Next came Beth, a teenager who had sent her Mom to bed in tears many a night. Others followed, while in the back of the church a little boy wiped away his tears and smiled at his baby sister as she reached down to pat his cheek softly.

Yes, love was there--the whole church was filled with it! Jesus is like that little boy. He doesn't want anything to happen to even one of His precious children. So He freely gave Himself to save you and me. Now, that is real love straight from heaven!

A Child's 11 Commandments To Parents

1. My hands are small; please don't expect perfection whenever I make a bed, draw a picture or throw a ball.

2. My legs are short; please slow down so that I can keep up with you.

3. My eyes have not seen the world as yours have; please let me explore safely; don't restrict me unnecessarily.

4. Housework will always be there. I'm only little for such a short time -- please take time to explain things to me about this wonderful world, and do so willingly.

5. My feelings are tender; please be sensitive to my needs; don't nag me all day long. (You wouldn't want to be nagged for your inquisitiveness). Treat me as you would like to be treated.

6. I am a special gift from God; please treasure me as God intended you to do, holding me accountable for my actions, giving me guidelines to live by, and disciplining me in a loving manner.

7. I need your encouragement and praise, but not your criticism, to grow. Please go easy on the criticism; remember, you can criticize the things I do without criticizing me.

8. Please give me the freedom to make decisions concerning myself. Permit me to fail, so that I can learn from my mistakes. Then someday I'll be prepared to make the kind of decisions life requires of me.

9. Please don't do things over for me. Somehow that makes me feel that my efforts didn't quite measure up to your expectations. I know it's hard, but please don't try to compare me with my brother or my sister.

10. Please don't be afraid to leave for a weekend. Kids need vacations from parents, just as parents need vacations from kids.

11. Please take me to church regularly, setting a good example for me to follow. I enjoy learning more about God.
