free will, how do we know what we are doing is glorifying god

hi brother and sisters. my question has to do with free will and god's purpose for us as humans. when you are a non christain you have free will to do whatever you want because god gave us free will. however when we give our lives to jesus, then our free will is limited to doing whatever glorifies god. So i find myself asking in everything im doing, is this glorifying god? and many of the thingd that i luv to do and many other christains luv to do : watching sports, playing sports, going to movies, doing leasiure activities, etc. do these seemingly harmless things glorify god? well if they don't then that means being a good christain means not being able to do all of these things and that makes me uneasy. my brothers and sisters, i really need your help and guidence.

Hi,

Welcome to the forums!

I once used to be worried about this very thing.

Just because watching TV is not glorifying God directly does not mean that it is a sin. When we are saved, by no means is our free will limited. It just means we have a greater choice, which is we are now free from sin, and can choose to resist the devil, whereas before we could not.

Remember what Paul said:

1Cr 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

1Cr 10:24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another's [wealth].

1Cr 10:25 Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, [that] eat, asking no question for conscience sake:

1Cr 10:26 For the earth [is] the Lord's, and the fulness thereof.

1Cr 10:27 If any of them that believe not bid you [to a feast], and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.

1Cr 10:28 But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth [is] the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:

1Cr 10:29 Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another [man's] conscience?

1Cr 10:30 For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?

1Cr 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Basically, whatever we do, we do it FOR the glory of God. Just because it does not directly glorify God does not mean we cannot use it for God's glory. This means that if you are watching TV, make sure that you are not watching lustful images. When you are on the net, make sure you are not looking at ****.

By keeping from sin, you are giving God glory, no matter what you do.

Hope this helps.

SOS hit it right on the head I think. Did Jesus have any hobbies or R&R.Let's start with this thought.
Matt 11:28-30
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
(KJV)

Is anything in this verse say we are to burden our selves? Just the opposite, we will have rest unto our souls. Being a Christian means you have the Holy Spirit to let you know if your doing wrong. You will know. If you are going to use a wooden litteraly sense of the verse about glorifying God in all things then what about sleeping, going to the bathroom etc. Relax and let God guide you. He knows how to do this in such a way that you will not miss his leading. It is satan that confuses
1 Cor 14:33
33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
(KJV)

Peace to you

If it's not a sin you can do it.

However, not all things edify, as Paul said. So make sure that you do things that edify somebody - yourself, someone else or God.

Always do things in balance. It's okay to watch TV, but to watch it 10 hours a day is overkill.

Same thing with sports.

Don't let God's grace become a inhibitor because it is actually freedom. Freedom from sin. So enjoy your life with God.
