Seek peace and pursue it!  Psalm 34:14b

Let Him seek peace and pursue it. I Peter 3:11b

How do you do this?

What does it mean to seek peace and pursue it?

Lambslove,

What a great question.

The Amplified version of Ps 34:14 is "Depart from evil and do good; seek, inquire for, and crave peace and pursue (go after) it!"

1 Peter 3:10 - 12 "For let him who wnats to enjoy life and see good day, good whether apparent or not, keep his tongue free from evil adn his lips from guile (treachery, deceit).

Let him turn away from wickedness and shun it, and let him do right.  Let him search for peace (harmony; undisturbedness from fears, agitating passions, and moral conflicts) and seek it eagerly. Do not merely desire peaceful relations with God, with your fellowmen, and with yourself, but pursue, go after them!)

For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with God), and His ears are attentive to their prayer."

I believe you can also look at Ps 91:1 "He Who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty, Whose power no foe can withstand."

You are right that these are words of action.

Since the Word describes Jesus as Peace, I believe we are to seek Jesus, Who is Peace.  We are to love God with ALL our heart, ALL our soul, and ALL our mind.

Spend a lot of time in His Presense.  Read as much about Him as you can.  Talk to Him constantly.  Not just asking for things but talking to Him.  As you would with your best friend.

Get alone adn turn on some worship and praise music. Dance and sing before Him. Worship Him.  He will be so delighted and in turn you will be delighted.

Anyway, that's my experience of seeking after peace.  When we are overwhelmed with Him, He overflows over into the world we live in and we walk in peace wherever we go. (Ps 91:the whole thing. . . .

Be blessed!

It certainly seems to go beyond a mere 'avoidance of conflict':

"Blessed are the peacemakers..."

And of course the supreme example of this is Christ who "is our peace... reconcil(ing) (us) to God in one body by the cross" (Eph 2:14,16), "mak(ing) peace through the blood of his cross" (Col 1:20).

So perhaps "laying down one's life for a friend" is part of the process?
