• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I echo the importance of breakfasts. However I disagree with the idea of exercise. Only a doctor should tell a person about exercise. The girls in my eating disorders program were not allowed to exercise if they were under a certain weight, or they were not eating enough calories. Exericse without the right amount of calories could cause serious health problems.

Madions1101,

You are right. I didn't think of that. Exercising definitely should only be perscribed by a doctor. But if the person is already at a healthy weight or is over weight and wants to get leaner, than I think walking is a harmless and effective way to exercise. However, if the person is severly underweight, than with than they should consult their doctor before starting the exercise program because it could be more detrimental to their health. Thanks for bringing this up. I didn't even think about that.

Hey there, I am in a similar situation as you are.
I went from eating breakfast to not eating breakfast, I have started to eat breakfast again, and can feel a big difference.
I do eat 3 meals a day, I don't eat huge portions when I eat.
I use to feel that eating was a sin and it wasn't heathly but its the NOT eating is the not healthy part. If you like to talk more send me an email or IM I understand how you feel.

I have found that by eating small, healthy things throughout the day, I don’t get too hungry, which ultimately leads to overeating, in my case. So by eating “small,” I keep from eating “big.” Also, eating in the morning raises your metabolism. This is a typical day for me: a banana at 8, oatmeal at 10, cottage cheese at 11:30, salad and Lean Cuisine at 1, granola bar at 3. I eat dinner after I work out or school in the evenings, and have lowfat cheese in a wheat tortilla and juice, or something like that. If I didn’t eat breakfast, I would overeat at lunchtime and feel ill, not to mention it would probably not be something healthy at that point. I always try to have something in my stomach, and I haven’t gained weight from eating this way. It sounds like I eat a lot, but I wake up in the morning wanting to eat breakfast.

i do that too! we call it brunch. but sometimes i'm so hungry breakfast :yum: gets attention. it's important the kind of foods you pick.

  • Perfect breakfast combinations
  • Chopped apple, and yogurt
  • Scrambled eggs with rye toast or gain toast
  • Two boiled eggs with rice cakes or oat cakes and a piece of fruit
  • Classic friut Smoothie
  • fruit and milkshake
  • cereal flakes with yogurt and fruit
  • Oat or millet porridge with milk and fresh chopped fruit
  • Toasted wheat bagel with fruit
All these breakfasts combine carbohydrates, fiber and a small amount of protein. If you do not have time to prepare any of these, then two pieces of fresh fruit eaten on their own are always a good standby (a banana and an apple are perfect examples). although you are likely to feel hungry quite soon afterwards, your body will be energetic and balanced. small energy meals speed up your matabolizsm and keep your body fit and trim.

Ok, I realize you dont eat breakfast, but three meals a day is a great idea, even if they are small.

Try starting your three meals at lunch time. Eat a healthy lunch then have an afternoon snack and then dinner. Or if you really cant eat that much so close together eat lunch, dinner and a snack before bed.

That will cut out that icky feeling you get from eating breakfast but you will still be staying healthy by eating your three meals.

Sometimes healthy does require gaining weight. If you are under weight for you size/bone structure/height, then gaining because of eating is the RIGHT thing to do. Notice, I didn't say it was easy. Praying for you that you will feel a calmness about eating healtier and that you won't feel "yucky and full" when you do eat what you should. *hugs*

Hey Bootaful, I am there and have been there many times. I have to force my self most mornings to eat. What I've been doind is haveing a yogurt and then going for a walk. It helps with the feeling of not wanting it. I've been doing this for a week now. The bad self talk is strating to lessen. Natalie Grant had recovered from an ED. She has a book out called "The Real Me" Being the girl God sees. It's a good book to read. In the back there are verses and resources. I know that the hardest thing for me was to reach out for help. But I did and it's a good thing. Reach out and get some help. An ED can take over fast if you don't have the proper tools and support. You in my prayers>>>>
