Braveheart or the Sound of Music?

Will your spouse watch "your" favorite type of movie with you even if it's not their favorite?
I got "Singin' in the Rain" for Christmas (big favorite) and yes, Hubby watched it with me. And I sit through his Anime slash and punch movies as well. Is there a line drawn in the sand? For example, my husband will not watch "Anne of Green Gables" with me and I will not watch "Braveheart" with him. Those are too extreme for us. How about you?

Well, I did get him to watch A Walk to Remember with me, and he had already seen Anne of Green Gables when we started dating, lol! For the most part we're pretty good about compromising. If there's something he really really wants me to share with him, I'll watch it. Same for him.

I am mid 30's married male. Give me 'Sound of Music.' I liked Braveheart, and some of my very favorite movies are the Indiana Jones type; so- I do like adventure. But- it seems every 'male' movie is the Braveheart type in recent years. Sometimes I think this Braveheart type craze to make sure men come to grips with their 'heart' and 'manhood' isn't good. I don't need to see all these movies, jump out of a plane, climb mountains, etc.. to feel like a man.

My fiance likes watching girl movies sometimes with me. There's never been a movie he refused to see. He even rented "Miss Congeniality 2" when I was sick, and watched it with me.

I've refused to watch a couple movies- mostly ones where the only thing that happens is lots of fighting and killing. But he doesn't mind. And, I *have* watched my share of them with him (alien vs. predator was one I remember hating!)

In general though, we both like similar sorts of movies- comedy, romantic comedy, drama, some action movies.

My husband would watch anything with me before we were married. I thought he was so sweet, being willing to watch chick flicks with me! But now he refuses to watch chick flicks. I had to watch Hitch by myself the other day because he wouldn't even watch that with me. Meanwhile, I will watch almost any movie he wants to watch. The only place I've drawn the line was at Jackass: The Movie. I gave that about 5 minutes and then couldn't take it anymore.

Haha.. wow, Beth, we have similar tastes in movies; The Sound of Music, Anne of Green Gables and Singin’ in the Rain are on the top of my list of favourite films.

I am thankful that both my husband and I have somewhat diverse tastes in movies, so that allows us to cross over into each other's tastes. There are very few movies that he wants to see that I don’t, and vice versa. Though, I do remember when we were dating, I wanted him to watch Singin’ in the Rain with me on our movie night. At that time he had some preconceived notions about older films or musicals, and thought he found a creative way to get out of watching it with me. “How about we watch it next time it rains? (to have a theme)” he asked, thinking I would forget about it by the time it rained. Well, I didn’t. ;). So we rented it and he loved it! He even bought the DVD for "me" for my next birthday, which he has probably watched many more times than I have.

Oh, and we did watch The Sound of Music and Anne of Green Gables together over the Christmas holidays.

In theory, my husband will watch "chick flicks" with me. Since we got tv, though, if there is anything on that isn't exactly what he's in the mood for, he just goes to the bedroom and watches British comedy. If I'm watching tv in the room, he'll grab the remote when I'm not looking and change it to britcoms. So I grab the laptop and go online to try to shut out all the shouting and gay talk (which is very, very common in British comedy), and if I change positions, he'll grab the computer to look up all the Britcom actors on IMDB.

I'm sleeping earlier and earlier since we made the foolish mistake of signing a one year contract for satellite.

For the most part, hubby and I like the same kinds of movies. At first I HATED kung fu movies, but over time I have come to appreciate his love for Jet Li and Jackie Chan. Occassionally a movie comes along that I really want to see that he cares nothing about like The Notebook or Angela's Ashes. We rented those recently instead of the usual stuff and he watched both of them and actually liked them. I believe he shed a tear when we watched The Notebook. We are willing to compromise when necassary. When it comes to Braveheart or The Sound of Music, neither of us are willing participants.

I love Braveheart!! We both love that movie! He'll watch most movies with me. When going to theatres we'll see something I want to see and vice versa. The ones I hated were the Star Wars movies. I have a hard time sitting through those and he of course loves them. And we both loved The Notebook. Bambi on the other hand, kind of a joke with us, I love it and everytime we watch that he falls asleep! I also love The Anne of Green Gables movies, I don't think that's something he would watch with me.

The Sound of Music has long been on my very short "favorites" list. However, it was my husband who introduced me to a real passion for musicals. You should've seen his face light up when he found out a new production of "Once Upon a Mattress" was going to air, with Carol Burnett (who originally starred as the heroine in the old one) playing the nasty ole queen. He took me to a stage production of Sound of Music for our anniversary last year, and can never, ever, ever pass up a production of The Music Man. On our list of "our" songs, you'll find songs like "Good night my someone" from The Music Man, and "How do you solve a problem like Maria" from Sound of Music. He almost surprised me by playing How do you solve... at our wedding!!!

I guess I had to stop and say something nice, since I was griping about him a little while ago. The tv thing is getting on my nerves a little, but he really is a gem.

We do not watch any tv anymore, but we both used to like anime and Braveheart style stuff.
I can appreciate Anne of Green Gables, cuz that is what I grew up on is that kinda stuff, but I did not know about all the other cool stuff that existed back then either. I doubt he would wanna ever watch any Anne of Green Gables stuff.
