So you, son of man:
I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel;
threfore you shall hear a word from my mouth
and warn them for me.

When I say to the wicked,
'O wicked man, you shall surely die!'
and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way,
that wicked man shall die in his iniquity;
but his blood I will require at your hand. (Ezekiel 33:7-8)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is this watchman's share?
Is this the share of those whose eyes have been opened to see the corruption of the Lord's church?
Then, who shall want to be a watchman?
There are many teachers and preachers. But I don't see many who teach and preach in desperation to save their own life. Paul said, "Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel." He seems to be one of the few who preached and saved his life.
I am in a Bible study group. If I slipped and the teacher didn't warn me, he would be as guilty as I. Is this fair to him? Shouldn't I be the only one to perish? Or is he not my watchman?
To me, to be a watchman is a heavy burden. But to be a man being watched over is also a burden, for if I slip, my watchman will lose his life along with me. It is too big a burden to carry, for I must be diligent to keep my watchman in prayer.
James said teachers will be judged more strictly. Now I see why James said it. Does anyone still want to be a teacher? Why? Please explain to me.
Theres a "comparing" that we must do when looking at scripture looking in various places as we familiarize ourselves in the word.
The Lord is both the Son of God and Son of man and He alone is the true watchman. Heres just a few verses.
Psalm 127:1 [[A Song of degrees for Solomon.]] Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh [but] in vain.
Ezekiel 3:17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.
Ezekiel 33:6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take [any] person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand.
In other words He gave His life (Blood) for you, it was required by His hand
See?
Jesus said, "The scriptures testify of ME" but you can't just look at a single verse without "comparing" throughout and carefully handling the word.
Now the Spirit of Christ in whom we are sealed is our protecter and watcher, teacher and comforter.
Concerning the woe to Paul concerning the preaching of the gospel, you can't cut off the end of the saying, He said He was COMPELLED to preach. Its God who is at work in Paul to WILL and DO HIS Good purpose thats why He could not boast, because of the effectual working of Gods grace in and through Him. Alot of people set the grace of God to the side, it doesn't work like that, His grace is all sufficient and effectual.
Is teaching not a gift of the Spirit from God? Should you not use all your gifts, striving for excellence, in your service to our God? Is not the church given, us one to another for the purpose of building each other up? And, in giving and doing in our striving for excellence, will Jesus not judge our heart motives, and not our works? Indeed, if you have been gifted for teaching, you should always strive to be lead by the Holy Spirit, always searching the scriptures for yourself. What if those who brought and taught the word were fearful of teaching? Its about loving God, doing His Will, studying and searching dilgently, and obeying God in all He gifts you with.
I for one am being greatly blessed by a pastor...online...who is a teacher...sure wish I had had someone like him years ago...we are in desperate need of humble...Spirit-led teachers. Part of jesus main ministry was teaching...we need to hear and see men and women teaching and living the word "rightly."
Hi...just thought I would say that it is a heavy place. God calls those he trusts and it is a tightrope walk of faith...but there is no other burden to carry if that is what a person is called to. It is just like the allegory of the person want to carry a different cross thinking hers was to heavy so she picked up someone elses and couldn't move it and another was to sorrowful, etc...and so she went back her own cross and it suited her.
It is a tough , lonely, misunderstood walk but... there is no other way I would want to live... I have had the priveledge of knowing Jesus in a richer way.:prayer:
Since I wrote the first post, I have been thinking about this matter. This is new to me and my thoughts are still not quite in order. But I will attempt to share what I am learning about this, so that you can help me with more focused advice.
When I became parents, I didn't complain. I just did what I had to do, and the children grew up.
I used to think that my children benefited from me and my wife. After all, they were fed, clothed, loved, cared after. How can they not owe to us? Then, I learned something different.
Children are not parents'. They are God's. God entrust children to parents and ask, "Please, raise the children for me." If parents raise the children well and they become to know and fear God, the parents receive a reward from God, eternal life.
Who benefits more, children or parents? Whoever receives eternal life. Not only that, parents also receive training from God to take care of souls, to pray for souls, to cherish souls. Who befenits more, children or parents?
Watchman's burden is truly heavy. But the reward is eternal life. Which is heavier, the burden or the life? Did the watchman gain or lose by watching over souls?
Parenting is a training to make them effective watchmen of souls. It takes the whole youth of the parents. If parents, after raising their children, refuse watchman's duty, they are wasting God's training, into which God invested his time and resources heavily.
Watchman's burden is truly heavy. But there is no watchman who has another watchman watching over him. So he gives by watching over, but receives by being watched over. The ultimate watchman is Jesus, who, in turn, is watched over by the Father.
As a parent receives a child from God to love and cherish, a watchman receives a soul from God to love and cherish. As a parent regards receiving God's child as honor and duty, a watchman also regards watching over other souls as honor and duty.
When you have done all those things
which you are commanded,
say, 'We are unprofitable servants.
We have done what was our duty to do.' (Luke 17:10)
To servants, receiving a duty is honor, for God trusts them enough to give souls to watch over.
Those whom you gave me I have kept;
and none of them is lost except (Judas) (John 17:12)
The head watchman lost none except one. That is the call of all watchmen: none shall be lost. Paul had several believers who followed greed. He handed them over to Satan so that they bodies were destroyed but their souls might be saved. He labored much and faithfully kept the watchman's call.
Like my brothers and sisters, I am a watchman myself, but I have another watchman watching over me.
Obey your leaders and submit to them,
for they are keeping watch over your souls
and will give an accout. (Hebrews 13:17)
I must keep my watchman in my prayers so that when he gives an account to the Lord, he will not be shamed. To be watched over is as great a burden as watching over, but I receive the duty as honor.
Rupert
PS:
Sister T:
You speak in such a manner that your words come to my heart. They are not too difficult; they are at my level of understanding. Please continue to advise me for I need to learn much.
