Ok this is my question...

I had always considered the Sabbath on Sunday, but recently read a document that different people had made certain points, about the Sabbath actually being on Saturday, so the observers would go from Friday at sundown to Saturday at sundown.. and that anyone who didnt think this, was unholy.
So now my husband wants to go to church on Saturdays, because he feels like we are doing something wrong, and we are unholy..and I just need some feedback on this..

:pink:

Is going to Church on Saturday going to bring you closer to God? We could go further and become Jewish?
The thing to remember is that salvation is the gift of God and there is nothing we can do in a physical sense to earn it. There are no degrees in salvation - you either have it or you dont. We walk by faith and not by might - all 7 days of the week. Please do not concern yourselves over this small matter - concentrate on the big issue - your salvation!
BTW - Just the act of going into a Church building does not automatically qualify you to go to Heaven! The holy Spirit is the church - and God is OmniPresent - put this to prayer and the Holy spirit will give you a revelation on this matter - I have prayed to this end for you and it is so.
GodBless.....Paul,

My pastor just addressed this issue, and his point was this: The calendar week begins on Sunday, and we are to give God the first of everything. Ideally, Saturday would be used for rest and relaxation, preparing one's self for worship on Sunday. St Paul had a great point...going to church is our public display of worship and our time of fellowship. But, a relationship with God is 24/7, the same as a marriage. He is always with us and we can always worship Him.

I personally don't think the day you attend church is much of an issue with God, just like I don't think a demoninational label matters to Him. As long as your are praising Him for His blessings, thanking Him for your trials and seeking a closer, more intimate relationship with Him through Jesus, I believe He will bless you.

>>different people had made certain points, about the Sabbath actually being on Saturday

James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

The problem is, no matter how hard they try, they are not able to keep the sabbath themselves. So they preach and teach for others to do something they themselves fully know that they are not able to do.

Anytime we preach and teach something that we can not or do not do, then that makes us a hypocrite. God loves people but He hates sin and He hates hyprocracy. Thanks, JohnR7

7. And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

Right there is proof that they broke bread on Sunday.
Your all good.
Show this to you husband!

Rom 14:1-23

1 Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things. 2 For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables. 3 Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him. 4 Who are you to judge another's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand. 5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's. 9 For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living. 10 But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 11 For it is written: "As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God." 12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. 13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother's way. 14 I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. 15 Yet if your brother is grieved because of your food, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died. 16 Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil; 17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men. 19 Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another. 20 Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are pure, but it is evil for the man who eats with offense. 21 It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak. 22 Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. 23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.

I think, looking at the context of this scripture, that it doesn't matter.

John

I second that John.
Also I have yet to read anywhere in scripture were Christ or the apostles instruct us to observe the sabbath.
If the Sabbath was sooooo important then why are we not specifically instructed to do it in the NT?
I also have yet to really find Christ observing the sabbath. Sure he went in on the sabbath in the synagogs and preached to the people, however, I cannot find anywhere were it says he CELEBRATED or OBSERVED the sabbath.

Jesus observed the sabbath as God intended it to be. In all manner concerning the law Jesus was perfect. However, the Jewish pharasees and religious leaders had added quite a bit to sabbath law making it virtually impossible to keep. For example, it was forbidden to do any work on the temple on the sabbath, which included the veil seperating the holy of holies from the sanctuary. Since the veil was woven an intent look at this would indicate that it was therefore forbidden to tie a knot, or loosen a knot, since that is what weaving consists of. You can see how ridiculous this can get.

As others have pointed out, there is no 'commandment' in the NT to observe or keep the sabbath. Paul is very clear that some choose to do so, so observe one day, others a different day, and some not at all, and this is all ok. So it is your choice, if you choose to set aside a certain day to rest from your labor and concentrate on your relationship with God, then that is fine, and if you choose to to observe a certain day, then that is fine also.

This is how I look at it, I believe that the Sabbath is on Saturday, and on Saturday I remember God and all his goodness and thank him. But on Sunday, I go to church to fellowship with other christians and to praise God for his blessings and to worship him.

I look at it this way because it makes sense to me.
