DrBob said:* DrBob plays classical piano and trombone. Studied with teachers from the Chicago Symphony but there are no jobs for a trombone player. So I now focus on the piano, and play anything classical but prefer Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Liszt, Debussy, Mozart ... Lately have been working on memorizing the Chopin Ballade in G minor and putting the final touches on Liszt's etude un sospiro.
I play piano for the worship team at church and they have a 7' Steinway in the large sanctuary. At home I play a Yamaha C6 which is better than the Steinway in sound and action.
I also play by ear and compose music and played piano bar in restaurants for years while living and going to school in Europe.
This comes in handy when our worship team leader wants me to transpose on the fly on sunday at church or hands me a piece of sheet music of an unknown song as we are walking up the the front of the sanctuary to get ready to play.
I have a mp3 of a song I wrote if anyone would like to hear it played on my Yamaha pm me or post here and I'll send you the link!

Yeah I can play it all. In fact after readng through the piece I decided to focus initially on the ending, because I fugured it was no use learning the rest if I could not play the ending. The scale in thirds turned out to be more of a psychological problem and once I worked it out in my head my fingers started to comply. I have not committed the whole piece to memory yet... the stuff you are working on is impressive. You should be able to play the ballade if you can play those other pieces you mentioned.DanielJamesSimon said:Please, post the link.
I was browsing through the thread and noticed that you are working on Ballade in G minor. This puts you straight into my deepest respect. That is my absolute favourite piece of music from any era, by any composer, on any instrument. I can only play the first 5 pages or so. Can you play the whole thing?
Yeah, the scale in thirds isn't too easy, but I imagine it would be more of a psychological problem. It's the second last page - the presto con fuoco - that really worries me.DrBob said:Yeah I can play it all. I used to play the violin-I played it for about six years and got burned out because of the rehersals. If I had to do it over again then I would have picked the cello.Jmm32088 said:I was just curious if anyone here plays classical music? and if so what do you play?
