I have conversed with other Catholics on one of the other forums and was told that the celibacy wasn't required to enter the priesthood, but this morning I am watching the news about the happenings in Calif. and they said "the Church may be rethinking it's requirement that priests be celibate." Now is this just another case of the media not knowing or is it required to enter the priesthood?

Celibacy is a requirement for single men entering the priesthood. In some Rites, married men may become priests, but if their wife dies they are not allowed to remarry.

To be a priest in the Latin Rite (Western), the discipline is to be celibate. To be a priest in the Eastern (and maybe Coptic, too) Rite, you may be married. Anglican (Episcopalian) priests that are married and convert to Catholicism may become priests in the Latin (Western Rite). However, if their spouse dies, they may not remarry.

Lay off the press. They can be insensitive, and often inaccurate, but they're the best press in the world. No nation has a media as good as what the US has. I'm not talking TV media, which is a bunch of garbage. But our print journalism in the US, taken at large, is of a quality never before seen in the world.
