When did you grow the most as a Christian?

When did you grow spiritually the most as a Christian?

  • In troubled times and times of suffering

  • In times of zero pain and suffering

  • You can only grow after Christ's return

  • You don't spiritually grow as a Christian

(Mat 5:3) Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

(Mat 5:4) Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

(Mat 5:5) Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

(Mat 5:6) Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness: for they shall be filled.

(Mat 5:7) Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

(Mat 5:8) Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

(Mat 5:9) Blessed are the peace-makers: for they shall be called children of God.

(Mat 5:10) Blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

(Mat 5:11) Blessed are ye when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

There are reasons Jesus said this!

Jeff, that's a great list of references! Thanks for the post! certainly, according to some here, those of us that suffer and are in pain need God's help the most. Obviously, it's the other way around!

Remember the story of Lazarus and the rich man. Lazarus was always better off, in this life, and the next!

Romans 8:17,18
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
1 Corinthians 4:10-13
10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised.
11 Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace;
12 And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:
13 Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.
2 Corinthians 1:6
6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.

Since everyone thinks that adversity is the environment in which they grow the most, would someone tell me how they plan to grow when Jesus comes back and removes ALL adversity, ALL tears, ALL suffering?
I think most people believe that when Christ returns there will be no more need for Christian growth. That all sin and evil in this world will be relinquished -allowing us to automatically become "uberchristians"
