I looked at the Family First web site. They only deal with a half dozen issues, several of which I disagree on. I mean their immigration policy has nothing to do with families and it takes more than a half dozen policies to govern a nation.

So what do you think? Is this just a bossy AoG move to manipulate politics their way or is there a genuine service they can render? Are they redundant? I mean the Liberals and several others have Christian politicians and their web sites also say they put family first. Are they shallow and without the depth of skills that either Labor or Liberal have to govern?

Family First, at this stage, are only looking for the balance of power to try and ensure that the family is not destroyed in Aussie society.
As such there is no reason to have policies on every situation; not all the Libs policies are detrimental to the family.
When the time comes that Family First is likely to have a shot at governing the country, they will have policies covering the areas necessary.
I believe they are a good thing for Australia and the various states.

I heard a guy on the radio say that while Family First was, in his opinion, the extreme right of Christianity, it did prove one thing: the days of ignoring morality as an Australian electoral issue are over. We may not like mixing politics and religion, but we do mix politics and morality.

They are extremist conservative Christians who try to pass themselves off as a moderate secular party.

Did anybody catch that thing on "Sunday" (or whatever it's called) this morning? Interesting stuff...
Are you referring to "Meet the Press?"

From what I can see the family is being well taken care of at the moment. New mother's now get thousands just to have a baby. This of course goes for unmarried mother's too.
Family first also looks at the moral and ethical issues surrounding families too.

The financial side of it, is put there (IMO) because of the slow birth rate, and won't we reap the benefits even though we want to have more kids. After July next year it is $5,000, then the year after that it is $8,000.

Gee... has anyone looked a little closer family first?

It's run by AOG pastors!

Like I mean you have the anglican, catholic priests as well as other denominational pastors avoiding all bias when talking about politics and there you have at the Hillsong conference a favor towards the Liberal party.

It's interesting that the policies are a paragraph long. I was expecting it be a massive load...makes me wonder why they need to use PDF file....lol.... they may as well have done it in HTML, saves space and memory.....

As for ethical policies...theres not much to go by.

As far as I know, any gothic can agree to those and do as it says, whilst doing evil. There is so much Christian assumption involved, that....

It's not going to happen!

And it probably will, if Hillspong become some sort of majority in Australia...

Well, it is their first go at doing this sort of thing. So I reckon give them a break, they're not hurting anyone.

Also about the policies, they don't necessarily want to be a party that only Christians will vote for.

i have no problem with christian parties....provided that are open and honest about who they are and why they are making the political decisions they do...

i'm affraid that FF is a poor cover for the AoG. There name is a mask for who they truely are, the sooner they remove it the sooner i'd be inclined to trust them. if they are not proud of being a christian party that says alot about who they are.

it reminded me of a certain christian group that was banned for sydney university for shifty behaviour like this...

at least the christian democrats (no matter if you go for them or not) have the nuts to wear there true colours on their sleaves.

I didn't necessarily mean that they aren't proud to be a Christian party, but I am sure they want more than just a Christian vote so to speak. I do support CDP party as well, (in fact there was no FF party here, just CDP) If they changed their name to the AOG party, would you think that people from other churches, or people who don't go to church at all would vote for them?

The family first name states what they are on about, even if it did start out as an AOG church thing.

I agree with you. Family First is a shallow, 5 or 6 issue party with not enough depth or experience to run the country. Analyze how AOG churches are run and see if you want your country run that way.

Our AOG pastor is an abusive shoot from the hip ask quesions later kind of guy, he offers simplisticly immature solutions, he is very enthusiastic, but about what? -- his sermons are without real substance, he doesn't preach the Bible, saying "they can read their Bibles at home," his pastoral counseling consists of "get over it," he insists that you don't need good theology (he only has a 2 year diploma from some second rate Bible school) and he was the Family First candidate here.

Do you think I voted for my AOG pastor? No way José!!!!! His definition of leadership is abuse. Do I want more abuse than we have in parliament already? No way! There are plenty of good Christians in other parties.
