  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Worship

Two questions for you OrthodoxyUSA...where does the "Divine Liturgy" come from? If you are taking it from scripture, please provide references. I would genuinely be very interested in worshiping according to scriptural mandates. If you are taking it solely from historical records than I would...

    Worship

I think it is important to distinguish liturgy from worship. This is not to say that they are mutually exclusive. Liturgy is a wonderful way to facilitate corporate worship, and can often greatly enhance the worship experience. However, Jesus spoke of the "true worshipers," whom He said the...

    concerning spiritual gifts

There are three categories of "gifts." The first category of gifts, found in Rom. 12, is often referred to as Motivational Gifts, because they are the primary motivators for our involvement in ministry within the body. These gifts are natural giftings, often also present in unbelievers. Anyone...

    concerning spiritual gifts

Though there is a great deal of truth in what you have said, I think we have to be careful to not marginalize what Paul is really saying in this passage in 1Cor. 12. (These insights are better applied to the "gifts" in Rom. 12, which are more personality/temperment based). Here in 1 Cor. 12...

Hpw do Revival experiences relate to Pentecostal theology ?

Pentecostals have kind of redefined "revival," from previous generations. We tend to see revival as an outpouring of manifestations. The unfortunate thing about this emphasis is that churches who seek the manifestations often become ingrown. In their minds, revival is for the church, to bring a...

    Satan,Devil and Evil ???

Tamara, I commend you. You kind of got shish-kebobed here for trying to be as honest with the scriptures as you knew how. It is easy to be dogmatic, and it can be really difficult to break away from dogmatic beliefs. It is the responsibility of every student of scripture to strip away all...

    Speaking in tongues

Without question the fruit of the Spirit is an essential element of the Christian life. Jesus told us plainly that a man is "known by his fruits." If you are truly walking in the Spirit you will be producing the fruits of the Spirit. However, what "fruit" did Cornelius and his house exhibit in...

We're wrong about the homosexuals in Romans 1

Actually, a more consistent interpretation of Rom. 1 is that these people are indeed unbelievers. The statement that they "knew God," refers to a kind of intuitive knowledge, the whole "everybody has a God shaped hole in their heart," thing. There is something imprinted on the soul of man that...

    Hardest Thing About being "Twenty-Something"

We're kind of in a new era for twenty-somethings. 20 or 30 years ago the grand majority of people finished college and then by 23 or 24 were married and starting a family. Today, the average age for marriage is closer to 27 or 28. That means that there is this big gap between graduating college...

    Hardest Thing About being "Twenty-Something"

Wow! Great perspective Ronny!! It is so easy to get caught up in the feeling that "when I meet her (or him), then my life will be complete," or "when I get my own apartment, then I can start enjoying life," or whatever! But God wants us to live whole lives right now! God wants us to be perfectly...

    Hardest Thing About being "Twenty-Something"

It kind of has gotten depressing...sheesh! Someone once referred to the "twenty-somethings" as the "quarter-life crisis" (much like its counterpart, the mid-life crisis). I'm still in the "crisis," you might say, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have found a job I love (I wish...

    Hardest Thing About being "Twenty-Something"

Okay, I know that not everyone is in their twenties (but most of you are). So anyone feel free to answer. What is the hardest thing about being in your twenties (or whatever). Is it trying to find a job? Becoming independent? Finding "the one"? For me, its the fact that there are so few of us...

is it important that mary was/is a virgin?

You didn't exactly answer my quesiton...Are we God's sons exactly like Jesus was God's Son? I understand that we become sons of God through the "born-again" experience (doctrine of adoption), but the Bible clearly teaches that Jesus was God's son by birth, not by adoption. Jesus is the "only...
