  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    I Lost Faith in Christianity

Now THAT would be something, and I'm sure it's a possibility as soon as Rome's bishop is ready to take his place as an equal with the other seas. >: P Kidding/ribbing aside, I love me some Orthodox and Catholicism.

    I Lost Faith in Christianity

I understand how the seemingly infinite number of denominations can be baffling or even depressing, but one does not (in my opinion) need to find one 'right' and the rest 'wrong'. It's possible for your relationship with God to benefit in many a Christain gathering. There is something positive...

    Question: Loving God?

Hmm. Here's an interesting page to look at: http://www.nccg.org/FAQ017-KillingOT.html I think the thing we often lose sight of is the fact that the time we have on earth (however long or short) is a drop of water compared to the river. To die is to live. We all must die mortal death...

    Desperately Lost

I definitely agree that science can be integrated into Christianity, and so can mathematics, and poetry, and art, etc... and I lay these aside in trying to understand God until it is known how and where they fit. ;) "I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing...

    A biblical Question........................Help!!!

Nice. Also notice all these things are idle, taking bad advice, standing in the wrong place, scoffing at or gossiping about others... May you be blessed.

    Free Will?

Interesting thread. This particular argument usually seems to fall apart when God is accepted to be outside of time. We often have this hatred against the idea of being destined to do certain things in the future, and being unable to direct our own lives and make our own choices. And so we...

    Question: Loving God?

Hi, Seekerstar, and welcome. Calminian put it well. Understand that a)the apostles martyred were quite willing to suffer these things for Christ; they walked and talked with divinity, how awsome is that? and b)it is quite possible that these things had to happen so that the message could...

    Turn the other cheek

You DO realize that there are soldiers among His disciples, right? Which of the Roman centurions in the NT did He say "Stop being a soldier" to? There are times that the greater evil is letting whomever do whatever they want. (ie:Hitler?) Do not apply the stance of pacifism to God and...

    Turn the other cheek

Nicely put. God commands us to use what intelligence, wisdom, and discernment we are given. Sometimes giving people what they want will spoil them. ie, children. So then obviously God does not want this. Always err on the side of love, to treat others like they are you, and what you...

    Desperately Lost

It is good to take the four Gopsels as literal; and if only them, then read only them, and leave the rest for later. If one can take the epistles as literal, then good, read the Gospels, and them too, and leave the rest for later. There must be something that is solid, something that cannot...

In need of serious advice.. Please. Can I be forgiven?

Welcome, JessicaKay, and thank you for sharing with us. I add my voice with my brothers and sisters in saying, yes, definitely you can be forgiven by God for these things, being penitent and humble before Him. The difficult part now is clearing the sin lying between yourself your husband, and...

    Turn the other cheek

JESUS NEVER TAUGHT PACIFISM AS A LIFESTYLE I'm mostly in agreeance with Calminian, but the closer one is to God, the more able one is to apply the right action in the right place at the right time. I wouldn't walk by a rape about to take place and turn the cheek; but I could allow someone to...

Hell's creation etc. A few questions.

Actually, I was thinking of Luke 9:27, but they are pretty much identical. Difference being in Luke He says "...taste death until they see the kingdom of God" We are all beings with souls. Souls (or spirits, if you so desire) are eternal. They go on, good or bad. In reading the entire...

    How Come? version 2.0

Eh... I wouldn't be too hasty in throwing out the message because you don't particularly like the messenger. All I'm saying is that not all Christians are going to seem like wonderful people from the outside; just that they are more likely to be better people than they would be without God...
