  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    branch theory - apostolic succession

There's an interesting (european) statement that the UK anglican church has signed up to, as part of the porvoo declaration. I don't have enough posts to link to it, but typing "porvoo churches" into google will give the site - look at section 4 of the common declaration. I presume the...

    If faith is a gift...

Thank you all for your comments. But if I can jump back to another point - how do you know that you're not convincing yourself by eg reading the bible and praying, rather than coming into contact with something genuine? A muslim might argue that reading the qur'an would lead to faith... but it...

    If faith is a gift...

Hello, I'm trying to decide what I believe at the moment. Intellectually I'm agnostic - I see no reason why God has to exist, but equally no reason why he shouldn't. But intellectual arguments aren't what I'm aiming at here... I've noticed a fairly strong thread in christian thought which...

    Christian Vs. Buddhism

Hi, My own background is that I was brought up nominally christian, have always found other religions interesting, but have never been able to commit wholeheartedly to any of them... But my own 2 pence/cents worth would be as follows: First, the similarities. Both faiths are very big on the...

    What is forgiveness anyway?

So how much of forgiveness is a 'state of mind' - not being hung up on whatever happened - and how much is practical? Is it possible to forgive someone, but still decide that it would be better not to see them again? Or would that be a contradiction in terms? Tom.

    What is forgiveness anyway?

Hi, Could someone explain what they believe is meant by the words 'forgiveness'? Does it involve pretending something never happened? Putting yourself in a position to be hurt again? I know that in christianity we're supposed to forgive each other "70 x 7" i.e., indefinitely, but what does that...

    Hello

Hi, glad to have found this site - seems like a lot of good discussion with much less in the way of flames than I've seen elsewhere...;) BTW, I've described myself as "agnostic" as that seemed the best fit - but is that usually taken in the strong sense (no proof of god's existence ever...
