  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How does Catholicism teach salvation to you?

That's where I'm so confused. The first time I went to a Baptist church, I was told the way, the truth, and the life. Never in mass did the priest say (well, at least I didn't hear it this way) the true way to salvation was faith in Christ. Yes, I know it's in the scripture, but how it was being...

How does Catholicism teach salvation to you?

I guess it comes down to how I would have answered this question then (when I was Catholic) versus no that I am truly a Christian; What would you say to God when asks you "Why should I let you into my heaven?"... Then I would have said..."Well, I went to church, I did the best I could at...

How does Catholicism teach salvation to you?

Yeah, but I knew I'd get more responses in the other forum. ;-) You are very right, Faith can be expressed through works, but works without faith are just good deeds. This is something I didn't learn in my early years in mass.

How does Catholicism teach salvation to you?

That's just it, I have accepted Jesus Christ as saviour for what He did for us, but it didn't come across to me that way in mass. It becoming more clear that God was calling me from somewhere else other than the Catholic church. I followed His voice and found Him elsewhere.

Again, I'll revert back to faith; believing in something you can not see. And even if Mary & Joseph lied about it, what would they have to gain (rhetorical)? Anyway, what I meant by the second part is a little hard to pin point exactly, but let me ask you this: What is the definition of "red"...

How does Catholicism teach salvation to you?

I left the Catholic church to persue a personal relationship with God (I'm not saying Catholics in general don't have one). I got tired of thinking I had DO things to make God happy. What can I DO to compare to that of Christ?... Nothing. After going to mass, confession, being an altar boy...

what the heck is this for

Well, those last statements weren't evidence of divinity, I was refuting your claim that it was just popularity. But the virgin birth is proof. But back to God. Science defines things, provides proof for theories, or reasons for specific events. But if you keep tryig to define everything you...

what the heck is this for

I can see that you are refusing to let God influence you. It seems that you are choosing to ignore the magnificence of His creation simply because you can't comprehend it or let go of the fact that man is not always in control. I think science is man's tool to explain things when he has no faith...

That's good. Having a relationship with your father is one of the best things in life. Do you like the fact that he is part of your life?

    How can you tell if....

Do not waste your time trying to determine if someone is a Christian. As others have said, you will see it by "their fruits." This is why man can't save you, why Jesus doesn't say to put your trust or faith in another person or even yourself; We are all sinners and fall short of the glory of...
