    A conversation about unity.

Jesus didn't teach that his mother was perfect, nor that she would become queen of heaven.
  2. Strong in Him

    Idolatry

There is. Have you ever looked at old family photo albums? Has anyone in those photos since died? Have you ever thought, for example, "dear grandad; he really loved the Bible and taught me such a lot about it"? "Great aunt Ethel served the Lord all her life and prayed for me before I was born...
  3. Strong in Him

    Idolatry

Why should anyone have to prove to you that when they look at/hold an icon, maybe in meditation or prayer, they are not worshipping it? Some Christians light a candle before prayer - should they prove to you that they are not praying to the candle? If so, why? Some Christians favour a certain...

    Idolatry

Those who use/have icons are telling you that they don't worship hem, but worship God. And the making of an image can't be wrong, as such, or God would not have commanded the Israelites to make an image of a serpent, look to IT and be healed.

    Idolatry

To you, maybe. But you are not God and cannot see into anyone's heart. What reason do you have for not believing your fellow Christians - brothers and sisters in Christ - who declare that they use icons, but worship only God?

 He is, or should be, the source of all unity. As I've said before, there is only one Gospel. To suggest that other Christians have only part of the Gospel, and therefore the truth, is not helpful.

You're not being asked to speak for them - you're being asked if you see the Orthodox church as part of the church that Jesus founded.

    A conversation about unity.

If it's more to say about unity - carry on. If it's more about Catholic teaching, doctrine, church authority and Catholic councils, I'm not Catholic.

There are Christians who don't "go to church", yes. And in my experience that has always been because they are sick of discussions about bricks and mortar, debates about some triviality of church practice or maybe of arguments like this one, when the church should be focussing on mission...

Yes - ALL believers. Jesus told his 12 disciples they were to make disciples of all nations and to be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth. The church began in Jerusalem, led by James. The disciples and believers were scattered by persecution and fled - taking...

    A conversation about unity.

So you don't want to reply to the fact that the Church is all Christians; those who follow Jesus' teachings? You don't want to reply to the fact that Jesus saves, not the church? You stated that we would have to add other issues to our declaration of faith in Jesus; judgement, resurrection of...

    A conversation about unity.

Yes - i's ALL Christian believers. All who confess Jesus, trust Jesus, serve Jesus and believe that he is the only way to the Father. The church can be found where Christians gather - in coffee shops, Bible study groups, Bible college, school or university Christian unions. It can be found at...
  13. Strong in Him

    A conversation about unity.

Baptism was an outward sign of conversion, an inner change and new life. A person who has been born again, or born from above, John 3:3, has already experienced the Spirit at work in their lives. Some people become Christians, receive the Holy Spirit, begin to live a changed life - which may...

    A conversation about unity.

I do wish there was a commandment, "thou shalt read the Bible in context and not make doctrines from single verses." Paul was giving his testimony to a crowd of Jews. He spoke of how he had rejected Jesus and persecuted believers. After he met Jesus, Ananias told him to be baptised for the...
