im confused about "God's chosen people"

Skip99, you are right in your interp of Matt. 8. 1 Peter is very illuminating in regards to your questions. Let's look at a few verses: For instance, Peter quotes the Psalms and Isaiah regarding the Jews. He says, "'The stones that the builders rejected has become the conerstone,' and 'A...

Is it possible to find God without the church or the bible ?

The book of Romans teaches us alot about the necessity of the Scriptures in the salvation of sinners. Romans 1 teaches that man knows about God without the Bible. They know about his power and divine nature. They know that He is good and rightly deserves our worship and devotion. But a...

    144,000 sealed

"The total number sealed mentioned by John, the 144,000, is often the subject of much speculation. Since the twelve tribes are listed, some argue that this is a reference to the believing Jewish remnant, or to the Old Testament saints. But since they are sealed with the name of God and of Christ...

    "In him" for the Reformed

I think you're reading too much into the "in Him" in that text. I think it's pretty straightforward. Ephesians focuses on the position of the believer in God's economy because of the work of Christ. 2:4 isn't simply speaking of Christ as elect, that wouldn't make alot of since in the context...

Miracles, and awesome stories where we see God's presence

As my signature used to say, church members should partake of signs and wonders regularly . The signs are the sacraments and the wonder is the preached Word of God powered by His Spirit. Grace and Peace.

    Best Commentaries around?

I don't know where I'd be without my commentaries :) I use Calvin's commentaries all of the time for my studies. I think it is 22 volumes and it costs about 150 bucks...but it's been worth it for me. Also James Montgomery Boice's commentaries are very good. But you cannot by an entire...

    Puritan buffs please read

Ok, I'm really needing some help. If anyone who reads this has the book "the Genius of Puritanism", could you please do me a huge favor. I need a quote from it, but don't have time to get a copy before I need it. The quote is by John Rogers, and it is him asking God not to take away His word...

    What is Jesus saying here?

Here's a sermon by Spurgeon on that text. http://www.blueletterbible.org/tmp_dir/c/1076809144-188.html " John was the Elijah sent by God to call men and women into the kingdom of the Messiah by repentance and faith, but he never saw the glorious deed of Christ on the cross nor did he see...

Parallels of the old and new Testaments.

You conceded that passover was a type of the Lord's supper. Is there an explicit scripture in the N.T. to verify that? The N.T. says that He is our passover lamb, but it doesn't mention the Lord's supper. Same goes with circumcision and baptism (Col. 2). Grace.

Parallels of the old and new Testaments.

Deuteronomy 30:6- "And the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, so that you will love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live." 1. Spritiual circumcision, i.e. the new birth, involves all 3 members of the Godhead. It...

Parallels of the old and new Testaments.

How can you say that our bodies being perpindicular to the water make a cross? I've sure never heard that one before. I know what you're trying to say, but the water does not make the shape of a cross. Besides that there is plenty of sriptural evidence that the preferable method...

    What's your eschaetological view?

Not particularly looking for debate here. I just want to see the outcome of the poll. Sorry if I leave anyone's position out, but I will put "other" if that is the case. 1. Amil = We are currently living under the kingdom reign of Christ 2. Postmil = Christ will return after the "millenium"...

Where have all the Calvinists gone?

Oh I forgot! My favorite seen from "the Calvin movie" would be when he comes back to Geneva and picks up preaching on the very same verse he left off from when he left a few years prior. You've got to give it up for the man! He was committed to preaching the Bible. Grace.
