  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Muslims, What Does the Name Jesus Mean?

You're correct, the theme is as old as humanity, and the early Church fathers understood this: Eusebius, in his Church History, tells us that Justin (Martyr), in his Dialogue with Trypho, says "there exists not a people, civilized or semi-civilized, who have not offered up prayers in the...

    Indictment of Jesus...

It's also funny how people hope on a man who's name meant "YHWH is salvation" for their salvation. I don't quite understand that... "The Essenes in Qumran who copied this scroll approximately 100 BCE are not to be considered the protectors of an accurate text identical with the Tanach which...

    Indictment of Jesus...

All I can tell you off the top of my head is that I believe John to be completed last. As one can see, the transition from human Jew to cosmic Godman is essentially complete in that book. Honestly, I can't recall when or which of my books I read about the timeline in. Your question is valid...

Is the quoting of Bible verses useful in debates with neopagans?

I understand that one may argue based on more than just the bible, some of my friends just can't. The bible is all they know. And just for the record, I don't think that Creationism (or at least some form of it) is reliant on the Bible.

    Indictment of Jesus...

All Jews agree on this, huh? It's curious then why my Stone Edition Tanach's footnotes all deal with the passage referring to the nation of Israel. I suppose that next you'll tell me that the messiah was to serve as a blood sacrifice for sins and that all Jews agree with this as well. Isaiah...

    Indictment of Jesus...

It's not really weird when you consider that they believe a young Jewish woman was raped by the Holy Spirit to begin with. And I see now the focus has shifted from debate between Christians and rational minds to Christians and Muslims. Revealed religion at its best...take cover, a war could...

    Indictment of Jesus...

You are grasping at straws my friend. The quoted chapter of Isaiah is about Israel, not about a mystical Godman. Prophecy was not about predicting some futuristic occurance...it was about warning Israel to get its act together before it destroyed itself. Well Jesus wasn't born on December...

    Indictment of Jesus...

Your post suggests two things: A. Jesus' divinity has been proven, consequently removing any need for faith, thereby destroying your religion. or... B. Early Christian apologists were full of ***** - Eusebius, in his Church History, tells us that Justin [Martyr], in his Dialogue...

    Indictment of Jesus...

What are you talking about? The gospels have Jesus quoting a Psalm...what's your point? "Those who believed they were receiving and communicating God's will were not oracles, and we are not to suppose that what they foretold was bound to happen, or that a partial fulfillment must necessarily...

    Indictment of Jesus...

That is a false statement. Jesus was no threat to any Pharisee in Judea. Many of Jesus' teachings were harmonious with the school of Hillel and to a certain extent, the Essenes. The Pharisees was the most popular sect of Judaism; in touch with the people and supportive of many messianic...

Is the quoting of Bible verses useful in debates with neopagans?

I totally agree. This is one reason why my Christian friends won't debate with me about religion. I give their only source of "truth" no authority and therefore they have no ground to stand on in an argument. It's kind of useless...

What is your opinion about Hindus?

Ok, so the caste system is a Hindu idea. That sucks. Oppression of any kind is unacceptable...I suppose I'll just have to chalk Hinduism up as another revealved religion designed as an opiate of the masses.

What is your opinion about Hindus?

I don't know much about Hinduism, or the Hindu, but I would imagine they are genuine people who are seeking enlightenment. However, like all followers of revealed religion...they've been a little mislead. Also, is the caste system a Hindu or Indian characteristic? The caste system sucks.

    Indictment of Jesus...

Finally, someone else who understands historical context! Jesus' claims of messiahship were a direct threat to Roman soveriegnty. The messiah, after all, was to reestablish the Jewish monarchy and usher in a time of peace...that is unless one is of the opinion that Christianity understands the...
