  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Sins that priests can't absolve

In case anyone is wondering why abortion receives such a penalty, but not murdering an adult, I read that when the civil authorities do not or cannot punish a crime they should, the Church sometimes fills the void by providing a penalty. Since murder of a born person or, say, sexual assault (to...

It is not possible to find Jesus outside the Church.

Pope Francis' homily today: Pope's Homily on Feast of St. George | ZENIT - The World Seen From Rome Some exerpts: And so the Church was a Mother, the Mother of more children, of many children. It became more and more of a Mother. A Mother who gives us the faith, a Mother who gives us an...

    Traditionalist Catholics Attack Pope Francis

I've seen articles where the SSPX leaders or members criticize Popes (they do it a lot), but the original text of what is being referenced in this article does not do so (at least the text I have seen). Fellay just expresses hopes as to what the Pope will do--and Pope Francis has been saying...

Pope Pushed to Appoint Women to the Curia

As was mentioned, there's already women in the curia.--this isn't all that radical, like the media is making it (it's weird how so much this Pope does is made out to be a radical departure from his predecessors, when it really isn't at all). I don't like the idea of adding more just for the sake...

What is the Catholic view of "Hell" these days.

Scripture does describe Hell as separation from the presence of God: 2:Thess 1:9 They shall suffer the punishment of eternal destruction and exclusion from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, Our Lord also uses imagery that implies an absence (in parables He describes...

Pope Francis Does it Again! "Unblocks" Canonization for Romero

How and why was it being "blocked"? His cause passed the doctrinal audit by the CDF in early 2005 (back when Ratzinger was the head). From what I've read, Romero did not espouse any of the problematic aspects of Liberation Theology. Both of the last two Popes referred to him as a martyr for the...

Pope: answering God with the heart protects against ideologies

I remember a talk I saw by Scott Hahn on EWTN a long while back where he explained this in an interesting way. Let's say that using only my reason or intellect, I concluded that all the doctrines of Catholicism were true. That would amount to nothing more than a nice coincidence that God and I...

“The decision to form a group of cardinals is the fruit of the Second Vatican Council

As was mentioned, this isn't really new. This is how the curia came to be in the first place. Likewise, Pope Paul III established a similar group of nine Cardinals, most of which were diocesan bishops or religious, back in the 1500s to help reform the curia, especially with regard to financial...

    Small communities?

This is the kind of thing which will vary depending on the participants and oversight. It can range from something fairly edifying to the blind leading the blind into the pit. My experience with them in college was they ended up being a mediocre Bible study, where no one had the real knowledge...

Pope Francis affirms Doctrinal Assessment and reform of LCWR

Nothing surprising here, although maybe to some. COMMUNIQUE OF THE CONGREGATION FOR THE DOCTRINE OF THE FAITH CONCERNING A MEETING WITH THE PRESIDENCY OF THE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE OF WOMEN RELIGIOUS IN THE USA "Archbishop Müller informed the Presidency that he had recently discussed the...

Pope Francis' Address to Members of the Pontifical Biblical Commission

Dear Members of the Pontifical Biblical Commission, I am happy to welcome you at the end of your annual Plenary Assembly. I thank the president, Archbishop Gerhard Ludwig Muller, for his greeting and his concise exposition of the topic which was the object of attentive reflection in the course...

Any Anglican Catholic Ordinariate people here?

All the Catholics I know were very happy to see so many join the Church and were also interested in experiencing some more good liturgy, etc. The only Catholics I could even imagine being unwelcoming are judgmental people (who don't think the conversions were sincere, but more of an...

Do people not like Pope Francis?

What would be your opinion of your bishop or Patriarch if he eschewed traditional vesture and titles and innovated with the liturgy (it wasn't the prison inmates which was problematic, but the two women)? Would they even dare to do so? If not, why not? Also, isn't this some of the kind of stuff...

    Ecumenism

Again, the goal of ecumenism is not a vague "being together" like some are implying (which I have already provided copious citations disproving). The end goal is unity in the Catholic faith in the Catholic Church. The union achieved through Anglicanorum Coetibus is an example of the true...

Pope Francis to consider closing Vatican bank

This is a tough question. The points made by "defenders" in the article are good ones. Those functions are very valuable to the Church's ministry and independence and are not easily replaced, especially in situations where places becomes more hostile to the Church, as has happened in the past...
