  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Republicans - here is what I want to know...

The Democratic National Convention does not even allow pro-life candidates to speak at the convention, much less run for any important office. This is not the case with Republicans. Giuliani, who for a while (maybe 6-8 months ago and before) was considered the front runner, was pro-choice...

Republicans - here is what I want to know...

Aside from being pro-life (which no longer is allowed in a Democrat candidate), the underlying philosophies of the parties is very important to me. With the Republicans, I see a general philosophy of self-responsibility, self-sufficiency, less government involvement, and more freedom for the...

Not everyone who says "Lord, Lord"...poll

Well, I definitely think Ecumenism is good and worth pursuing. Remember Christ's prayer before he was betrayed.... "that they all may be one" - He does not like His followers arguing about doctrine and going off in their own separate ways. Ecumenism is good and necessary. Whether I am...

Not everyone who says "Lord, Lord"...poll

We should really try to stay away from having mere opinions on who is saved. Although we may recognize our opinions are mere opinions, how would that not be judging? Christ was very clear that we have no business judging the heart of our fellow man.

Not everyone who says "Lord, Lord"...poll

Don't know - only God knows. And yes, there will be "surprises" ... if we even speculate (which we have no business doing)... we are human and bound to be wrong, hence "surprises."

    How many believe...

Well, it is kind of like we believe in both. The Church = "spiritual Israel" - but we also recognize all Jews by ethnicity as part of "Israel," - that which, in the end times, will convert to Christ. Both are "true Israel," so to speak. Edit to add what our catechism says about each type.

    About Christmas Eve fasting?

I'm Italian-American... we always have fish on Christmas Eve dinner... no meats. It is a nice tradition of ours, but not binding on all the faithful.

    Saints

I was going to recommend Augustine's Confessions, but someone beat me to it. :-) He goes through the intellectual journey of his whole life, the different philisophies he subscribed to, and the intellectual process of converting to Christianity and wrestling with questions and doubts is pretty...

    How many believe...

I can't vote in the poll because you did not include an option that matches Catholic belief. :) We believe that a. Israel is Israel and God still has a special plan for Israel. Paul says (see Romans 9–11) that God continues to keep his promises re: the Jews by preserving a remnant of...

    Serious Question for the Mods

Hey Shelby.... I was just checkin out OBOB and this thread caught my eye... and maybe my conscience... :-) I unashamedly admit that I did do this from time to time. Just out of pure curiousity, once I figured out how to do it. I never "took action" based on anything I found, or used it as a...

Is denial a form of ignorance?

I've thought about this quite a lot. It is related to "full knowledge" - required for a sin to be mortal. How much knowledge is full? I do not know. I really do believe that for these kinds of questions, only God knows the "level" of knowledge/ignorance in each person. All the more reason when I...
