  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Finding a Home Church

A quick thank you to everyone for their input! Disciples of Christ are one that I'm somewhat familiar with, although in my personal experience the biggest difference between the Disciples and the CoC is that Disciples have instruments. They did both originate from the Stone-Campbell Movement...

    Finding a Home Church

Hello, I've been exploring my faith the past few years, and especially having moved to a new city (Salt Lake City, Utah, to be exact) I feel this is a good time to look around and find a denomination and congregation that fits. I was raised in the Church of Christ (Restoration Movement), and I...

    Theology?

Although I haven't been here in quite a while, I thank all of you for your answers.

    Theology?

A friend of mine recently converted to a Reformed church, and has been discussing the "sense" of their theology recently. The idea of most of TULIP(Calvinist summary of faith) goes against what I was taught, being raised in a Church of Christ(RM). Unconditional election seems to be a major...

    No Creed?? Really?

While creeds may support factionalism in a way, I still find them useful to understand the beliefs of a congregation. Especially since there's no human governing body among Churches of Christ. Let's say I move to a new city and am trying to find a "home church." If they have a statement of faith...

    Geocaching??

Yeah, I geocache occasionally. But between college and work, I don't get out as much as I would like. But when I do go, it's always a lot of fun. Maybe we'll find more of our kind on here!

Presbyterian. Which, other than paedobaptism, is fairly close.

    Not the only Christians?

i personally would say that the statement is correct, that it's only a very small percentage that believe that. I'm from West Virginia, and of the dozen or so congregations I have known well enough to determine their opinion on this, only one actually believed that only CoC believers were going...

    Where Does Everyone Attend?

I currently attend West Virginia University, and my graduate school will either be here or at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN.

    Campus Crusade for Christ

Something that Cru does as an outreach at my school is that when freshman are moving in, they'll have people around the dorms helping people carry stuff up to their rooms and find their way around campus. They also do Bible studies at different dorms or apartments in addition to the big meetings...

    Grad School-Need Advice

If you want to be a Christian counselor, I would suggest a Christian school if possible. Had you thought about a specific denomination of school, if you opted for a Christian school? Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN, is a church of Christ school, and I can personally say their admissions...

read the Bible, but which one?

Also, the English Standard Version (ESV) is considered to be one of the better modern translations. It's relatively new, but is as close to a literal translation as they could manage. It's produced by Crossway if you want to see more about it.

What does it mean "to believe?"

James 2:19: "You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror." I requoted the verse because I find it accurate for the situation. Faith, saving faith, requires true faith. A person can "believe" in God, but...

What does Christmas mean to you?

On the surface, for instance when walking through a mall, I'm reminded how worldly culture can take a good Christian concept and commercialize it to the point of being unrecognizable. A little deeper, I think that it's a mistaken Catholic concept, considering we don't actually know what time of...
